Good value shotgun for bird hunting

Hey folks, I’m looking for a good value shotgun for bird hunting, which accepts three shells, two in the magazine, and one in the chamber. Any recommendations here?

I don’t know much about bird hunting but I am selling a mossberg. You can check my profile for the ad.

Go semi. Berreta Outlander or Franchi. I have both and a few of their over unders. My first semi Beretta was the Outlander and myself and son have been using it for almost 10 years. Not one FTF with any ammo or weather. That thing has been taken in some nasty terrain and conditions and still looks new.

After much reading, I decided to get the Maverick 88 for my first shotgun and so far it has worked flawlessly.

I second the Benelli Nova pump, but do yourself a favor, and spend the extra $100 on the SuperNova. It has recoil reducers in the stock. Speaking from experience with both, your shoulder will thank you, especially with larger 3” or three-and-a-half inch loads. And standard off the self trap and skeet loads feel like shooting a light 20 gage loads. I love my SuperNova for trap.

I can’t speak to the 20 gauge Nova, but one of my hunting buddies has one and loves it. Smacks the hell out of dove with it.

One piece of advice on all of them- If you but the all black version. Keep the entire barrel lightly oiled because they rust easily. If you get it wet while out hunting, take the barrel off stick it in front of a fan/space heater for an hour to make sure all the moisture is gone. This is not an issue if you go with the camo version of the supernova, because the barrel has some type of wrap on it.

A friend had the supernova and didn't care for the rubber chevrons (recoil reducers) sticking out on the sides of the stock.
He said his beard would get caught between the rubber and the plastic stock and it would pull his beard hair.

The larger shells never bothered me in the Nova when I was hunting. I was having too much fun.

Bob, that’s interesting. I have a beard and I don’t think this has ever happens to me. I threw a few Federal three-and-a-half inch duck loads through my buddies Nova—> instant headache…

That’s true; good catch. A good value or budget can be very broad depending on the individual. For some it may be $400-$500, $600-$700, while others are $1000 or more.

Winchester Sx4. 12 gauge 28 inch barrel
Pros: light weight, very ergonomic, and has a great swing and accurate with different chokes

Cons: can't take 3.5 inch shells, if you have wood or polymer stock make sure you don't have any moisture on the gun when you go back home. Break it down and wipe down the barrel and rails or it'll rust up
