Glock 43 Slide upgrade

What are the pros and cons of replacing my Glock 43 slide? Right now I’m looking at a 43x MOS slide and a Shadow Systems CR920 slide.

There’s no con other than $$. Get a different plate for it. I always recommend a dot.

Pro is you can always sell the slide later and the firearm stock so you don’t lose too much $$

Pro’s - optic ready, if it has cuts, it’s significantly lighter. I have several and went with another Zaffiri slide on my 43 and 43x. Even adding a Holosun EPS carry optic, and steel sights, the gun lost a full once of weight over stock.

Con’s- price. Reliability on some if not using oe internal. I’ve had zero issues with Zaffiri on g43, g43x Mos, 2 g48’s and a g26.

I actually don’t like lighter, specifically for competition. Follow up shots are less predictable with less mass on the slide it’s snappier. Lower grain more felt recoil. So if you plan on doing follow up shots or transitions lighter is more difficult on the slide.

I also have some zp slides, they look nice. I also agree with using OEM internals. Don’t go aftermarket if possible.

No personal with Shadow. I think they had issues early on, but may have been a barrel lockup angle issue. Lots of info on the Google.

People who has slide work done, does it affect how the gun functions after? Especially when there's cuts involved outside of weight. Also when places do mill or cerokote. Do they disassemble the slide completely when they work on it?

I'd stay with the Glock OEM 43x MOS slide if possible.

As someone who's tinkered with a dozen aftermarket slides for Glocks, the QC isn't there and you may run into a battery of issues such as slide not fully racking back into position, FTF/FTE, etc. This is especially the case when the slide has "racing cuts" for lightweightness. I've sent some OEM slides in for some cuts, but nothing too extravagant outside of a port above the barrel, and maybe some extra cuts at the front of the side for grip/press checks.

As for places that mill/cerakote; it depends on the vendor. Some will fully disassemble for you without additional cost, and other will charge an extra cost to disassemble and reassemble.
