I can see this as a potential issue if you have a lot of targets to set up or if you have a large group of people. And if you have to travel a long way to get there, the limited time may seem like a drag.

I'm lucky in that I rarely go with a large group and I have anywhere from one to four targets to set up and take down when I go. Plus, you can drive your vehicle up to the target line, so that helps with unloading and loading targets.

It's mostly just me on a Friday afternoon. There are some times when I'm the last one to check in for a bay and I've found I was able to take a little more time. YMMV.

Specially, when you spend 40 minutes, setting up and 20 minutes, sweeping all the brass in the path that you plan to run drills in.
I literally take a rake when I go. They should be paying me.

Two hours per session.

I thought the nearest BLM area is Victorville? I'm fine with the two hour limit. Rather do that than spend the extra time going to and from Victorville or further. And BLM land isn't always open depending on fire risk.

If you're going to R66 from the South in like San Bernardino or elsewhere there's BLM in Highland and if you're coming from the North you're already near Victorville or there's BLM like 10 miles from R66.

This is all to say the amount of money you're spending on the membership is probably worth it if you don't shoot a lot. I spend like 4-5 hours in the boonies shooting almost 1k rounds every 2 weeks usually.

The BLM spot in Highland has been closed for years.

I actually shoot quite a bit, not just all at once. I go almost once a week, shoot anywhere from 150-250 rounds at a time. The membership allows me and actually gives me incentive to go as often as possible.

I've met up with guys to shoot on BLM (near Barstow), but that's once in a while, and when weather is nice. I don't normally have time to spend a whole day shooting.

For sure, if you want to spend more than 2 hours shooting, R66 isn't a good option. IIRC, Lytle Creek is $35 for all day, but that comes with more restrictions (no holsters, no slings, shoot only when range is hot, set up and pick up targets only when range is clear, etc.). But at least they allow steel case ammo.

I guess it comes down to what you want to do when you're shooting.

Usually you need to cover the minimum amount (either via the per person cost times x number of people or as an individual you need to cover the entire fee). Not sure what the discounted price is though for weekend bay use.
