Finally Got Pulled Over with a Gun

I haven't been pulled over and given a ticket in like a decade but finally today it happened and the first time with a CCW, and while I was on surveillance so the guy got away hahah terrible.

Anyways, there's horror stories on here about telling a cop you have a gun, he asked if I had a CCW before I even said anything and I told him and he literally just said "okay". Like didn't even ask to see my license or anything about the gun lol. Then came back with a ticket and left, motorcycle cop that was writing people all morning/day in Elk Grove today
 
As a retired LEO, it's important to understand that LEO's assigned to criminal duties, and those assigned to traffic duties employ very different standards when deciding to cite violators. I generally cited 20-30% of the folks that I stopped and cites were given when I had some reason to suspect the driving problem was going to continue. Most of my stops were for the purpose of investigating suspected criminal activity. If I didn't find any it was time to wish the driver a nice day and continue my search.

Traffic Officers are pretty much dedicated to traffic safety, and doing so through enforcement. It's not about revenue generation. My agency got exactly 0% return on all citations issued.

I once commented to a CHP friend of mine that most CHP Officers would cite their own mothers if given the opportunity. He acted as if greatly offended by my statement, and he said that there was no possible way that he could ever cite his mother. I had to ask him why. He explained that his mother knew better than to drive in any jurisdiction where he was working.

No, dispatch knows who I am before I even start working, if it’s a decent neighborhood I call in. If it’s like Oakland or Stockton or a huge city I don’t bother because nothing would ever happen anyways. But if it’s a quiet suburb full of rich white women yeah the cops might get called on you within like 5 minutes

That’s funny. Yeah this guy is THE traffic cop for Elk Grove PD. As my local officer friend said “he’s the most liked guy on the force” 😂😂😂

Pretty sure he gets overtime for court days too.

It is what it is. Hopefully I can win it, but worst case I’ll bill the cost to the client and it’s a wash. They can pay.

Yeah I’ll try all the steps and hope he doesn’t respond or show up. It’s a pretty bogus ticket to start with. But other than challenging the LIDAR calibration you can’t really do much

Almost always true, 20 years ago I got pulled over in the morning on my way home from night shift; did the California role through a stop sign about two blocks from home.

I had just stopped and got a box of donuts for breakfast and offered him one. He laughed and drove away, no ticket.

Those old cool guys are mostly gone now.
