Poll Featureless vs. Fixed Mag

Mine are featureless. I prefer comps so the flash hider is first thing to go. My stocks are DoubleStar A2 length due to gorilla length arms. For grips I use the Magpul MAID grip and the Exile back strap. I actually like the Exile’s thumb rest so there isn’t an issue if I am at place that is picky about features or not. I just swap the back straps depending on how I want to use the rifle. Last thing is an ambi-safety since you can’t reach around the grip to activate it.

I just picked up a CompMag and will try it out. I don't mind the featureless so much, but damn do I hate the grip angle on any compliant grip.

Yea that’s the main part that gets me. The fixed stock is whatever cause I never adjust mine, I just can’t get around that fin. Feels too awkward. Hope you enjoy the mag. Hopefully in the near future we won’t have to worry about any of these features

fixed mag is easy for gun shops to stay comply and leave no room for error and they gladly sell you that $99 compliance mag

Have you shot a shotgun, hunting rifle, long guns with traditional stock? If so, the featureless grips are manageable.

Have both. Each have their benefits and drawbacks. Main sticking point is the pistol grip. I can live with a fixed stock and without a flash hider, but a grena...er...I mean, pistol grip is a must. It's nice to reload with a Sparrow grip, but it's nice to shoot with a fixed mag/pistol grip. Might lean more towards featureless if the Sparrow grip was a bit narrower on the wide end; I find the grip too thick near the ring finger/pinky area.

The four featureless rifles get shot all the time and have freedom mags, the fixed mag is rarely shot and mainly there to scratch the itch of having a rifle that doesn't look nerfed.

Reloading with a fin grip is more annoying than Sparrow to me.
Maybe its because I don't have a thumb rest on the fin, but when I go to reload the rifle always wants to tilt forward out of my shooting hand because of the weight, so I have to tuck and hold the stock under my armpit. With the Sparrow I can death grip that sucker and reload however I want.

Featureless for any sort of defense imo. Is just not worth it for maglock. Any sort of jam will take 2 weeks to remove magazine.

For plinking, maglock is pretty fun if you have freedom mag laying around.

I despise grip fins, so I prefer the Juggernaut featureless grip. I thought I'd be OK with the fixed-mag thing until I actually tried it. "It's just one pin/button, how hard can it be.... OH"

I'm the opposite have 1 featureless and 2 fixed mag. The fixed mag units gets used a lot, don't recall the last time I used the featureless. I use one fixed mag with a scope for longer range bench/prone and prefer the adjustable stock for switching positions and the pistol grip angle works best for me. The other fixed mag is for off hand out to 200-300 yds, I find that it is much easier and less tiring to offhand shoot with a proper grip and also easier to be accurate than using featureless setups. I have learned to change mags quickly with fixed mag setups, and also clear malfunctions (mine has been user induced to test).

That said if you can only have 1 and want to use if for HD/SD featureless is the way to go, that is the reason why I have the 1 featureless as it is my go to if I need an AR for HD/SD (though my 1301 is on hand for short distance defense/ home defense). Also if you go featureless it is best to get an ambi safety, as most grips will block your thumb from easily working the safety.

But why limit yourself, get both setups for different uses.

Featureless here and will not look back. Did the fixed mag route. With the gadgets out there that allow you to crack the upper and lower receiver and drop the mag, it wasn't very intuitive. Plus it was finicky. I spent hours practicing on it and never got to comfortable enough level to make it work like a non-fixed mag drop. I applaud these companies that try to find the legal workaround, it's just not for me.

I have a "normal" AR here in California that is 100% legal with all the evil features.

It shoots .22LR ammo.

I prefer RAW.
All the evil features and full capacity detachable magazines and not limited to being a rimfire.
