I think there is email after death. I still get emails from deceased relatives with links to things they think I should see.

Fun email fact from some FBI employees. Two or more people with access to the same online email account can communicate with each other without sending any emails that might be discoverable. Simply edit the draft email and keep saving the draft for the other person to read and respond. The email never leaves the system or gets scanned by the NSA. You just have to remember to periodically delete the draft, empty the trash and eventually delete all login information. It works even better when the email server is in your bathroom and you have a cloth or bleachbit to wipe it clean.

There are other similar techniques, all variations on the old espionage "mail drop" (hole in tree).

But: If you are at an e-mail provider, and send e-mail to a person at the same provider (for example gmail to gmail, or yahoo to yahoo), the e-mail also never transits over the internet, and the "well known" government scanners won't see it.
