If anyone is interested or has obtained a CCW in North El Monte w/EMPD (South El Monte has to apply with LASD). I just found out that Detective Garcia has retired and will no longer be in charge of the process.
For reference, I applied for my CCW in March 2024 and was issued in July 2024. Garcia was definitely a big help and had a no nonsense attitude each time I came into the station throughout the process - totally upfront, courteous, and even gave me a heads up about modding my firearm(s) that I put on the permit.
In any case here was my timeline with Garcia, hopefully it'll be just as fast for anyone who is applying/renewing.
03/11/2024 - Initial application appointment scheduled at station
03/15/2024 - First interview w/Garcia. Submit paperwork/thumbprints. Receive approved list of CCW course instructors
04/10/2024 - Completed CCW course
04/12/2024 - Range Qual at La Puente shooting range
04/24/2024 - Submit Range Qual and CCW course Cert to Garcia
06/10/2024 - Range Qual at EMPD station. Firearms inspection
07/11/2024 - Issued CCW
