EGW Dovetail Optic Plate Stuck on TS2 Slide.

Hah, thanks! The Dremel method was a huge fail, I quit after a few attempts. I brought the slide with the busted-off-extractor head to my local gun shop only to remove the plate, nothing more yet. I think he can do it. At the moment, I see no way to push or punch it out. One can hear the clank of the blockage when moving the plate, and it can be moved with fingers.

I'm also in touch with a great gunsmith in San Diego who could probably sort me out. I'm probably going to have him do the optic cut for my TS2 Orange once it's out of jail.

If you're confident of location of the obstruction (e.g. the hole into which you lost the broken extractor) then perhaps drilling that out directly would be more productive.

I appreciate that extractor is in the way. But it is a more direct path vs milling the entire plate off.

Update!

My local gun store managed to remove the stripped and broken set screw by drilling into the plate and without damaging the slide. They charged me $60 but it was well worth it. Took about a week to accommodate other jobs while I was busy with work and other stuff. He basically had to drill out the plate until he could get the screw to fall out.

Only then was I able to use my MGW pusher for the first time to get the rear sight back on. Worked like a charm!

Thank you. It became clear when I could hear it moving a little and could move the plate with my fingers but couldn't push or punch it off.

As another helpful hint, always use the very best tools on fasteners. It’s so easy to bugger up a fastener with poor quality or poor fitting tools. If you don’t have the proper tools, get one or make/modify one, or find someone with a quality tool that fits properly to do the job for you.

For instance, I have a drawer in my tool chest with probably 50 or more Phillips screw drivers of different sizes and fits. That is the only kind of driver in that drawer and I will check the fit and function of which ever driver pick out of the drawer in the screw I’m using it on before I actually use it.

Sound advice. As it is i already had to extract one optic screw. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, as they say.
