EDC Gun

P365. I shoot it well at the range and it's so lightweight that I sometimes forget I have it on. I wear it IWB at 3 o'clock in a Crossbreed Reckoning holster.

I tried carrying my P229 in the house the other day (not on my permit) and my hips started hurting a bit. I am much older and less forgiving of the weight. I was disappointed since it's such an amazing gun.

Glock 19, but will add a 1911 and a G30 to the permit soon. I am debating adding a 629 4". I dress like a man and don't have trouble concealing a fighting gun.

Which belt did you use? This is a factor and I get "gunfighter hip" (sciatica on one side) if I don't use a Kore Essentials belt (or other similar type belt with 1/4" increments). These style belts solved most of my hip issues. It's a shame because I have some really nice gun belts from Milt Sparks and others that I no longer use.

Of course, working out is impossible and can never happen (which solves the hip issues).

Wait....I've been having sciatica like symptoms on the opposite leg of the side I carry....this is a cause? 💩.

Yea even some slight discomfort and you can start favoring one side or the other. It happens over time. So people that say get over it or toughen up it's not supposed to be comfortable... Well... OK. It always catches up to you. The discomfort is your body telling you to make changes.

Hey, thanks for the response and advice. I wear a Nexbelt - Supreme Black EDC Carry Belt. I wear it even if not carrying since I love the ratchet feature.

I might try carrying the P229 again. I have carried my P320 without any issue, so I'm not sure why the P229 threw me. Perhaps it was the holster choice. My P320 is carried in a Crossbreed ST2. For my new P229 I was frugal and just added a shell to my existing Alien Gear setup that I've used for my Glock. Since the P229 is not on my permit, I didn't want to spend a bunch on a new holster until I knew I might carry it.

With 10 rounds of 124 grain JHP ammo:

P365 - 22.79 oz
P320 - 31.44 oz
P229 - 33.99 oz

I was genuinely surprised that P229 was less comfortable than the P320 which is almost the same weight. But, boy oh boy, the P365 is super light in comparison.

Brave man carrying a sig 320

Don’t get me wrong, I had the 320 for a while.. no issues, but might want to reconsider carrying one.

I do carry and train with the safety. Mine is an m18.

I've studied the 320 issue a lot and have come to the conclusion that my 320 is safe. If you use the wrong parts (like the wrong takedown lever) or assemble it incorrectly (not using the slide catch) there can be problems. This is a design liability, but doesn't affect my usage.

My main carry gun is a Sig P365XL, but I also carry either a Ruger LCP Max or LCRx. I use the Phlster Enigma for all of them.

I see a lot of people use the enigma holster. Just looked it up, looks really interesting, might have to get one soon to try.

There is no toughening up against spinal nerve pain. There is only mitigating it somehow, or suffering.

Yes, and it goes on either side. I solved it with a Kore Essentials belt that is pretty loose. You will find that sweet spot where it doesn't press against the back of the hips enough to cause a problem while still holding up the gun. If you gun causes the belt to sag, get a heavier belt that won't bend. I use the 10# belt from Kore Essentials. I also keep a spare strap on hand because they do eventually wear out.

You'll learn over time when the belt will cause a problem; there will be an early "twinge" somewhere. If you feel it, loosen the belt a notch or two until you don't feel it. Possibly do some stretching. See youtube video on stretching for sciatica. I also stand like I'm going to do a jumping jack. I drop my hand to my leg and hold, then do the other side. Sometimes a torso twist helps. Also try sitting and leaning forward to grab your feet (focus on stretching the lumbar area, not your legs). All this is done before I start limping around.

Also, sometimes a hard seat with incorrect angle will activate the pain. Watch out for this and the second you feel it, sit up straight and soften the seat with a cushion. Stretch immediately. Odds are you can stop it. I usually get one or two warnings before it takes a day or two to go away.

I found that AIWB often works better to prevent it because the gun and mag sit in a "pocket" up front. I carried strong side for half a day recently and was limping around the next day with mild pain.
