DUNCAN V. BONTA GOES TO SCOTUS CONFERENCE - California Large Capacity Magazine Prohibition

To which 3 are you referring?

Duncan, Gator, Santolla, if i remember correclty.
Nothing with this court, especially for next year, is a slam Dunk.

Wolford 6-3 is not a good indication for you?

Since it hasn't been denied, I presume this is your personal opinion on the meager importance of Duncan.
It was let slip, to be accurate. No decision, not granted, not relisted (even tho, I don't think they can relist into another year) . If SCOTUS wanted to take it, they would've combined it

Hard to imagine they’ll rule on AWs but not on LCMs as closely related as they are. They could also possibly reference LCMs in the AW ruling.

Magazines are mentioned 42 times in Viramontes petition for cert and 104 times in Grant, with both petitions referring to their specific mag ban law as being part of their AWBs so I would not be surprised if their legality gets answered. Probably 6-3 but could see Kagan making it 7-2. Sotomayer and Jackson will never go against a gun law.

Check out the questions they took. No mentioning of LCM whatsoever. Why would they reference it in the opinion, if not asked.

I would be more certain, if SCOTUS brought one of the LCM petitions in the mix.

You know California. Unless clearly stated, they refuse to abide. Well, they don't always abide even if clearly stated.

No, they’ll try something in the language if the opinion has a hole or two, or there’s a footnote they like. But they’re like cockroaches, running out of places to hide.

Bruen language left them no room, but stop resisting CCW. They attacked it from the different angle, tho. However, they had to remove the very arbitrary good cause. Unless the new opinion clearly says that any 10+rounders are legal, California won't comply.

Jackson has never seen an application of Bruen she liked.

There’a a lot about magazines mentioned in Viramontes. I’m unclear as to why this is if Viramontes is only about ar15 bans. Is this a component? So far everyone is saying it has nothing to do with mag bans, and yet

“Cook County’s Blair Holt Assault Weapons Ban (the ‘Ordinance’), enacted in November of 2006 and revised in July 2013, makes it ‘unlawful for any person to manufacture, sell, offer or display for sale, give, lend, transfer ownership of, acquire, carry or possess any assault weapon or large capacity magazine in Cook County.’ (Cook County, Ill. Code §§ 54-212(a)…)”

They did, and Wolford dealt with some of that also. Before they were chipping away at us, now we’re chipping away at them.

We have to wait for a ruling on the AWB case, but I hope people finally realize none of this would have happened if Trump hadn't been elected and rebalanced the SCOTUS. The SCOTUS is the only way we have any chance of chipping away at extreme gun laws. And you can bet your butts that as soon as Dems have the chance, they will make SCOTUS lean far left again.

Hopefully they will touch on "large capacity magazines" enough to be able to NOT GVR Duncan but give a ruling our way immediately, this time next year

Can we stay on topic? As thrilling as this taxation debate is I come to this thread for updates on supreme court cases.
TLDR summary: LCM( incl. Duncan) didn't get cert. It's held a hostage of the AR-15 case to be decided next term. Then Duncan gets reverted back to the lower courts. We will watch the Season 3 of Duncan saga.

I hope I am wrong.

Magazines are very important, to be sure. But IMHO striking down AWBs is a higher priority.
