Do guns have to be registered?

A: That's an irrelevant hypothetical. No such las has been passed.

B: Starting a civil war and killing law enforcement seems to be a popular desire in parts of this community.
A: that's your opinion
B: I don't know anyone that wants that. From my personal experience, most or all of my active LE friends have said they wouldn't enforce such a law. So, it is reasonable for me to say I don't think the average LEO is willing to lay down his/her life for the state. You are free to disagree and think "a civil war would happen". I highly doubt that.

I think it was legal for manufacturers to build and sell guns without serial numbers up to the 60s or 70s.
GCA of 1968 required all firearms manufactured or imported into the usa to have serial numbers.

Ok SO.. my father passed away and his guns are in a safe at my brother’s house. My brother passed away without “taking possession” of them and registering them. If I am going to take possession of these firearms.. most of which are long guns all purchased prior to 2014. I do not need to register them because as far as CA is concerned, they have never been registered. Is that accurate? Or am I obligated to register them because they move from his ownership to mine naturally.
Yes.
When you take possession of them in CA or bring them back into CA, you need to register them.

Really no reason to register them to you, you can still sell them as long as none are registered as stolen.

Serious? Can you give an example of a law that requires people in California to turn in all their guns?

I remember the day Deputy Gutzwiller died. I didn't know him personally, but there were a heck of a lot of sirens that day. Yes, there are people who "want that", namely overthrow the government and kill law enforcement. And yes, LE are sworn to uphold the law, and most are willing to act by that oath, even if that means loss of life. I wouldn't call what happened (for example with the Boogaloo movement) a "civil war", but clearly there were (and are) gun people out there who think themselves as above the law, and see LE as an obstacle.

If you’ve been charged with a felony or have been deemed a threat such as domestic violence. You have to turn in your guns. I am not being a prick. These laws are reasonable. Now Canada, Australia, and other countries including china etc went the progressive route of restricting civilian rights then all out banning firearms or types or firearms offering buy back programs . The situation in Canada literally has been in play this year.

Also he is speaking of the specific situation of LEO’s going door to door taking firearms from citizens. He does not believe LEO’s will take that risk upon themselves knowingly violating our constitutional rights. I also agree that most officers will NOT lay down their life for an illegitimate law to disarm California.

To think otherwise is irrational

You honestly think officers would raid houses to take firearms away from otherwise law abiding citizens because California decides to violate constitutional law??

Sure some might..

If that’s how you feel. We live in very different worlds.
Maybe I am blessed to not live in an urban wasteland so the police here have self respect and reverence to the nation. I have worked closely with police and sheriff deputies in my area and know most of them quite well.

I also worked closely with local PD, sheriffs and CHP daily. But its okay thats the nice part of the USA we can have different opinions and still be friendly with each other 🤠

It’s a hypothetical. If you’re gonna be disingenuous then I’m not wasting my time.

That is true like the antifa cell that tried to murder a cop and got taken down by the fed government in Texas. But outside of ANTIFA style groups there haven’t really been any political attacks on cops recently I’m aware of.

💯

Thinking LEO would risk their jobs by not enforcing laws written on the book is kind of funny seeing the news and everything thats been going on for at least 30 years. 🤠
No I don’t think they’d go door to door to try and disarm the population. It would be a suicide job

Absolutely, and I'm very familiar with the process, having helped some of our neighbors deal with it (both on the giving and the receiving side). And it goes significantly further than felony conviction or DV. But that is nothing like a law that takes guns from all or most law-abiding citizens, nor going door-to-door to confiscate.

These laws are reasonable.
I mostly agree. Except that their use during restraining orders (even non-violent non-criminal ROs), while justified, ends up being over the top. Here's what I would like to see: If you have to give up your guns, you can get a court date within 24 hours (usually same day service, if you request it before 10am, your case will be heard in the afternoon), where you can get the gun restriction lifted by a judge. And once it is lifted, the guns will be returned to you within 24 hours.

We had that before. Remember the hurricane in NOLA, and California officers taking part in the door-to-door confiscation? At the time, it was considered reasonable by most. Whether it is so in retrospect is a nasty, difficult, and open question.

EDITed to add after I saw gawernator's post: It was not a suicide job.

Look up boogaloo: Right wing, one guy with one helper killed two LE (one of them a contractor), injured a few others. All in my neck of the woods. It's actually not all that uncommon, if you look around for stories of LE being killed in the line of duty.

And before anyone even asks: No, I don't know of any load-bearing statistics about the political affiliation. "Let's not bicker and argue about who killed who", to quote The Holy Grail, since there is lots of anecdote, and not much accurate information.

according to the DOJ boogaloo wasnt left or right wing, just extremists who wanted violence btw. 🤠
