When talking about cost of EV I think we need to acknowledge that when/if EV will become significant percent there will be separate tax on electricity used to charge them.
And that is good case scenario. Bad case if the price on all elecricity will be raised to make up for lost gas tax revenue

You're also moving the goal posts btw. Earlier you said that you've yet to see EVs corner or brake with decent results. I would argue that cornering and braking with decent results is necessary to successfully complete a time attack.

I don't think I moved the goal post by responding to new info but you may be right. At that point in the discussion I was comparing to heavy performance cars. Weight being a main contributor to braking and corner. The Volkswagon is a specialized beast and weighs substantially less than the Cybertruck.

As @Gawernator knows with his 2 wheel pedigree, rubber compounds play a vital role and the same it true for cagers. Records will be made when aero and tire compounds advance. The propulsion doesn't really matter anymore. Trying to keep it somewhat general to most users otherwise we are getting into fan cars and other experimentals.

Why hydrogen cell? That tech is a dead end. If the idea is fast refueling then the answer is to simply improve charging curves to the point where rapid refueling for race cars (where longevity doesn't matter) takes about the same amount of time as refilling gasoline.

Modern batteries were heavily developed by NASA and further refined by decades of public manufacturers. They did a great job and are basically the reason we have smartphones. I don't believe Hydrogen has had the same amount of R&D or investment. Hydrogen can be flexible in fuelcell to run electricity or as a gas for other uses. Storage, assuming embrittlement is solved, does not use exotic elements like batteries do.

For a house being your infrastructure - running water, solar panel, hydrogen generator and storage is not too different from a battery setup. There are advantages to both and a best option is likely a combination. A battery connected to a generator and solar array would be slick.

We EV-owners pay much higher registration fees to make up for lost fuel-tax revenue.

EVs are extremely popular in Norway where it's quite cold. With proper battery hygiene, range is no problem in the cold.

Hydrogen is a dead-end for passenger vehicles and the infrastructure and safety would be a nightmare for refueling.

I've seen many public transit vehicles use hydrogen hybrid. Buses, trains, to boats. Safety has largely been addressed even militaries more thandecade ago made safe enclosures to withstand gunfire. Mind you there are always loses and a subsequent learning period with new tech. Plenty of first responders got zapped to the afterlife when the new Prius was involved in accidents.

The car can tell you exactly how far you can go until the next charger or one's destination down to a single percent, not that anyone should push it that far.

Of course like ICE vehicles, cold weather and running A/C requires more energy, but EVs don't lose power in hot weather/thin air since there's no reliance on optimal air density for combustion.

I just bought an EV a couple weeks ago. We have solar, and our electric bill is almost nothing. Our other car is a hybrid, and we really don’t pay much for gasoline, because we both work at home and don’t drive much. I fill it up maybe once a month. Energy and fuel costs are not big expenses for us in general. We got the EV because we need a second vehicle, and I did want one I could use if gas prices went even more crazy or gas became outright unavailable for some reason. Also, the EV has V2L, so I can run some devices like our refrigerator and some lights for awhile if Iran or rogue AI takes down the power grid. I want to get a battery for the solar and the “islanding” setup that can disconnect the system from the grid if necessary. When we first go our system, you could not set it up that way, but now you can. I don’t trust our energy infrastructure, and I want to be able to get by without it.

Stable/ staple food items that might go up but mostly I'm just cutting back on luxuries. Gun-wise I might buy 1000 rounds of 124 match ammo to use in competitions.

Can't wait till all the tariff/DOGE/election "incentive" checks arrive (1. Sarcasm. 2. That would cost us so much that they might be inflationary and thus devalue the very dollars were are handed).

To my knowledge the newer Nissan GTR is the only fat ass 'Torta' that deserves the title of performance. Even the heavy Bugatti recognizes they are for top end speed not cornering precision. Teslas may be viable or popular in your drag circles but I have yet to see them corner or even brake with decent results. Maybe when Elon figures out the lateral thruster system I'll consider them closer to a race car. We'd be very well off if Tesla drivers (aka the new age BMW driver) could be as intelligent as their cars and maybe even use their signal - sadly we are not even remotely close. I appreciate Tesla's attempt at automated driving though.

To be on topic, not everyone is able to afford a solar array paired with complicated formula batteries. Personally I'd rather follow Bob Lazar if I had the chance with a solar array and consistent water supply for hydrogen fuel production. Splitting hydrogen and trying to address hydrogen embrittlement seems like a better long term solution than mining for the rare elements. Hydrogen embrittlement is a troublesome hurdle to overcome but I think the juice is worth the squeeze.

TX had a flat 200 dollars a year fee for EV’s. So it was 72ish dollars for your tag + 200 dollar fee. Oh you should have seen them motherless ing when that fee hit. Also wtf is with registration costs here!? One of my cars is 26 years old and the motherless is still 226 dollars. F- me.

“If you took a solar panel and used that energy… to just charge a battery pack directly, compared to trying to split water, take the hydrogen, dump the oxygen, compress that hydrogen to an extremely high pressure or liquefy it, and then put it in a car and run a fuel cell, it is about half the efficiency. It’s terrible. Why would you do that? It makes no sense.”

I wonder if there's a website that tracks firearm prices and compares them to other inflated items like food, gas, utilities, etc. The "stocking up" might not be necessary if the prices aren't actually rising quicker than other things.
