Hey Folks,

Posting for my gun club.

Just wanted to let you know that Diablo Rod & Gun Club has opened its Saturday Night Shooting on the Pistol Range to also include Non-Members now. That’s right, you don’t have to be a member of Diablo RGC to attend this weekly Saturday event. Shoot times are 5-8 pm; EVERY Saturday. $20 for Non-Members and $15 for Members; this is for the whole session. We do NOT charge by the hour. No need to pre-register to attend anymore; just show up.

Great for practicing low light shooting or with lights/lasers; without paying for a low light shooting class!

Rifle calibers are NOT allowed on the pistol range side. 5.7x28mm and magnum calibers are allowed. However, shotguns are SLUGS only at 17 yards.

This is hosted exclusively by DRGC on the pistol range side EVERY Saturday; not USI.

Location is United Sportsman Incorporated in Concord, California (East Contra Costa County); public pistol and rifle range.

Make sure you have signed the safety waiver online on the USI website to familiarize yourself with their SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures), and pick up your blue card before USI closes at 5pm. You can go in during the regular USI public range hours to the physically acquire your blue card.

Saturday Night Shooting is starting off a little slow which is to be expected. Last time there was shooting past 5pm on the Pistol range was a LONG time ago. We expect it will take a few weeks for people to learn we are there on Saturdays and come out and do some shooting.

As a reminder Diablo is hosting a Pistol Range Shoot EVERY Saturday Night from 5:00pm - 8:00pm

Cost is Members $15.00 - Non-Members $20 We are running a "special" for a limited time depending on the uptake. If a non member comes into the night shoot and joins the DRGC they can shoot that night for FREE!

It’s great fun and we are looking to deploy a few fun targets and have a great time! All range personnel are NRA certified RSOs and we even have a few CRSOs that come in to shoot.

ALL of USIs prior pre-requisites will be required. If you need more information please contact Diablo: Membership@DiabloRodandGun.Com

Purchase ammo and targets PRIOR as Diablo is not able to sell ammunition.

Yes. It depends on the Saturday. Sometimes it’s busy but it’s not as busy as during public pistol hours; sometimes it’s slow where it might just be like 5-7 people.

This is separate event from USI even though it is taking place on USI property on the public pistol and rifle range. It is a Diablo valley rod and gun club event; but it also allows non-members. It happens after USI public pistol and rifle hours are closed.

At the recent (this month) monthly club meeting they discussed that if you are NOT a Diablo valley rod and gun club member, you pay $20 instead of $15, but if you join that night as a member, they will allow you to shoot for free that night. Membership is $25 for one year and $25 is the initiation fee.

Been hearing that when it is busy it can be around 30-36 people.

I wish I knew it is a thing. Picked up 226 mk25 yesterday with TLR1HL and have an urge to try it out asap. Probably showing up at USI tomorrow first half of the day, but if I knew Saturday night is a thing - I`d be there today

Make sure it’s well lubed. RSO’s can see dry guns when they come by to do the chamber flag check during ceasefire. They also are NOT surprised by the amount of people who bring brand new guns (along with tea cuppers), literally brand new out of the cardboard box, bringing cardboard box to the range, gun is still preserved with factory preservatives, they didn’t even clean it to remove the preservatives, shooting it without even oiling it at the very least even though they didn’t clean it of the preservatives; and then asking why there are malfunctions (if they do happen to have malfunctions).

It is, picked it up via PPT with the light and additional mags, it is not brand new out of the box (but in very nice condition). Although I field stripped it few times already, just for the sake of playing with a new toy, and yes, it is lubed alright

Oh yeh, about the night shoot. They made it brighter for most of the lanes now by adding more lights right in front of the shooting bench (all but about 7-8 lanes on the far left side by the shotgun patterning board where the old ccw quali practice distance lanes were in the high number lanes); where it’s easier to see at 7 yards (and 5 yards for the ccw quali practice distance lanes which are now on the far right side). However the light doesn’t reach the 17 yard line as good; which is good if you are practicing with lights and lasers. If you want to practice lights and lasers at 7 yards and want it darker go to far left side of the pistol range; higher number lanes.

Hope you like it and enjoy it. Good you are comfortable, able to, willing to, and willing to learn to tinker. I was surprised to hear some people take pride in paying to have their guns “professionally cleaned” at the gun shop; not because time is the issue.

They also featured that metal pistol in the TV series of “Terminal List” (the first one).

It feels nice in the hands. The trigger is also nice in SA so will see. I have acquired too much recently and haven`t had a vast opportunity to train with all I recently got (shame on me, but lack of free time) - my goal is to have at least 1k round through each of my handguns to be as much comfortable with each of them as I could possibly be. It might not be my main by the end of the day, but it is definitely a significant pistol so I will keep it in my collection anyway.

As to field stripping/cleaning/lube - I think that I need to be able to do basic maintenance on my guns, I`m not sure if I can do some advanced stuff though. But so far my vp9 is close to about 3k rounds (all me) and USP is around 3k rounds too (including the previous owner as I picked it up used) and I don`t think anything serious needs to be done there other than just typical strip/clean/lube. Maybe close to 10k?

PS: always been a shotgun guy and very new to handguns, got my first in march this year, it just very contagious xD

Yes, that’s good you are thinking like that. It is good to be able to maintenance your own pistol. YouTube helps a lot too visually instead of just reading the owners provided factory instruction manual. Will save you money.

What do you consider the advanced stuff? YouTube and reading the forums, along with cross referencing helps alot.

Skilsaw to shorten the length of pull to Woodstock of your shotgun? Woodworking, mathematics, control of temperature (to not burn the wood), using a fresh blade, importance of safety, and familiarity with power tools helps. That can be easy. But learning to fit a recoil pad nicely with symetry is an art. That I would pay someone else. Something like that I would acquire a salvage piece of junk stock to learn from; if I were to want to learn to do myself knowing that I am going to shorten a length of pull on a wood stock more than once in the future.

Replacing the rear trunnion of an ak? Pushing out the barrel of a stamped AKM receiver; compared to a milled reciever? Yes, AK’s are a speciality compared to AR’s in which AR’s are easy to work on. AK work of overhauling parts I would pay someone else to work on; AR parts I do myself.

It’s good to have tools if you know you are going to work on that gun or tools that can work on those kinds of guns; more than once.

Like replacing the trigger on a glock. Or I wont risk disassembling the slide to replace the firing pin spring - that would be something advanced at least for me =) I might try it one day (if I need it) using the youtube

Replacing the trigger on a Glock is easy as just having a punch; and watching a YouTube video. The small pin and larger pin in the front holds the silver lug which sit on top of the trigger shoe area, and the slide release lever, if you are having a hard time getting it out or installing it back in, move the slide release lever (lightly wiggling or feeling for it) since that’s usually what is causing binding. The rear third pin holds the trigger housing. After all pins are removed, slide out the slide release lever, lift up on the silver lug (locking block) in the front; the whole trigger system will easily be able to lifted up as a whole while checking for clearance of the trigger shoe clearing the frame as it’s coming up.

If you are just changing out springs and connectors….One thing to remember is what orientation the trigger spring hooks on the trigger housing and then what orientation it hooks onto to the Glock trigger bar. Trigger housing side it under hooks from the bottom going up while trigger bar hooks in the from the top. Take a picture or even just take awhile at looking at the orientation before diassembling; don’t rush. Something like that even if you forget, or run into troubles; YouTube can easily help with something like that.

Take it slow, take pictures when disassembling; I remember I’ve had a time of doing a full strip down disassembly of a Springfield XD-40 trigger system along with grip safety for deep cleaning (it’s more complicated since it has the grip safety in the back), I rushed it, didn’t take pictures, and forgot how everything was put together. I ended up watching a YouTube video but I couldn’t get a camera angle of a certain portion, so I was required to figured it out by thinking of how each spring, pin, and part is supposed to work together in harmony; it just took longer than expected.

Firing pin spring, you access by removing the slide, where you see the firing pin, there is a black spacer sleeve, push down with a micro flat head screw driver or very small Allen if that’s all you have, this releases the tension of the backplate (you’ll know you got it right when you kind of hear a click and then the backplate feels like it can be moved by you), slowly remove it while making sure the extractor plunger spring doesn’t shoot out, remove the firing pin assembly, pull down on the spring, remove the two cups, slowly release upwards, change spring, do everything in reverse for the firing pin assembly, slide it back in place in the slide, press down on the back of the firing pin assembly when putting the backplate on, and then do the same for the extractor plunger spring assembly when you get to it to fully close up the backplate.

I am currently living in the North Bay looking to get into Competition shooting. Would this be a good place to start? If not, looks like a good time at the very least haha.

Is this Night Shooting -or- a Night Match? Is this on the Action Pistol side or the public side? RRGC used to have night matches with pistol mounted lights from low ready or holster.

No, this is not competition style shooting. An easier way for me to explain it, is, think of an outdoor pistol range, shooting from bench, but during night time instead of regular public hours, and they have installed led strip lights to help with a little illumination. This takes place on the public range; but after public range hours. Public range hours is run by USI. The Saturday night shoot is hosted by Diablo Rod and Gun Club.

Compared to the past, they have added more led lights, maybe because people were not bringing weapon mounted lights/lasers or bringing handhelds. It’s a little brighter now.

This is not a no-light shoot where having a WML or handheld is mandatory.

If you want competition style shooting, Diablo Action Pistol is a place to start, you need to take the orientation and be a member of Diablo Rod and Gun Club; within 90 day you need to participate in your first match without being DQ to be DAP certified. If you already have your classification then you won’t need to do the orientation.
