CHANGE OF ADDRESS FEES.

So related but unrelated: I got a red light camera ticket a fair number of years back in Shasta county. The total fine was close to $1000. I was a little put out, that’s close to wet and reckless type fines for an accidental occurrence in the early morning hours while fatigued etc.

When I contacted Shasta County Courts to work out the fine it was $489 for the traffic infraction and all the other things were tagged on. Like $225 court staff salary fee and $190 court security fee to pay bailiff. I offered to pay the $489 and asked if they could peel off the fines specific to using a court room as I was paying and resolving and not using a court room. I was informed the only way I could get that was to take the ticket to court, which would make my entire argument moot.

Oh yeah, there was a fee to set a court date if I wanted to contest the ticket. It was really just a cluster F- of bureaucracy. I earned the ticket, just didn’t want all the sneaky extra fees that seemed redundant.

Compared to what? I’m 100% ok with paying the premium to live here because it F-ing rocks. In the city there is a crazy amount of great food, breweries, music, art, culture, etc, the people are generally friendly and fun, there is amazing wine tasting in 5 directions within an hour, you can get to the beach or the snow for a day trip, tons of hiking and backpacking opportunities nearby…

Both me and my fiancé have lived in a lot of places in the U.S. and elsewhere and we both agree Sacramento is fantastic. I DO wish the gov was more gun friendly but that is not a Sac-specific problem.

Side note - we bought my MIL a 2bed cabin on 6 acres in Amador county by Sutter Creek and it’s LOVELY out there, but we would never want to live so far away from a city (maybe we will change our minds when we’re not in our 30s)

There was a time when Sac Sheriff’s weren’t doing gun modifications and we got laminated paper of our CCW.

Well just south of sac county is SJ county right, could even easily go to the sac town for some of the culture you feel is missing in any of the towns there, since you are okay driving. One town is even famous for wine in itself in that county

If I wanted to live in a rural area, I would be open. But I like living in the city and there is no city in SJ county I’m interested in. I want to be able to walk to fun things to do at a whim, not drive 2 hours. Stockton is hell and Tracy is roughly the same. Maybe in the future if we want a slow, more isolated existence. I don’t begrudge anyone that, and when I’m a grandpa I will prob want that, but not now

I grew up in stockton so i know what you mean , i enjoy the smaller town living and can travel to a bunch of places like you mentioned. Also river access and easy delta access around our area. Although my town aint so small anymore, growing and probably will hit 70k soon.

I think I’d rather be out in the country like where we have my MIL now than in a smaller 30-70k city. I would love to have access to rivers, trails, etc and my own land to shoot on, but right now I would feel isolated living in that situation. We got a good thing going living in Sac and having access to that kind of stuff with a short drive, and I can go up to MIL’s place to spend time shooting in the woods if I want. When she is gone we will probably sell the place and move out of CA TBH

West Sacramento is considered Yolo County… but again I wouldn’t want to live in West Sac.

Yes, SAC city can suck, but SAC county not too bad. Lots of nice burbs like Folsom and Rancho Murieta. Had my CCW from Sac county for almost 15 years when other counties were not issuing. Really make the 45 minute drive downtown just for concerts, sports, events, etc. Even have a private outdoor range in Amador county and can even bird hunt which not too far from my house. Yes, there are postives and negatives of almost every city/county since we all still live in CA. All have higher taxes and costs in many things and again some higher or lower depending what area you live in.

I finally got a ticket like that in citrus heights for going past the limit line, like $496. I waited until the last day and filed trial by declaration and won. The county mailed me back the fine in a check like 2 weeks later.

YES, I always tell everyone to do a trial by written declaration in ca for traffic tickets, it’s an automatic 30% chance to beat it even if you don’t even write an actual argument. About 1 in 3 chance the officer won’t even respond and you get a default win. If you actually gave an argument, even better chance. I’ve beaten 3 family members’ tickets doing this

Your experience with such fees for merely administrative issues is exorbitant. More importantly, why on earth is your driver”s license relevant to your right to carry?

I’m one of the few people in California who is both retired and has legitimately up to four addresses, so I have used the easiest one.
