Carson City, NV CCW Permit: Timeline and Fees

Folks, I recently got my NV CCW from Carson City, NV as a CA resident. Overall, I'd recommend Carson City to any CA resident looking for a NV permit. Quick and easy.

Timeline​

Aug 4: Booked 8hr CCW course
Aug 8: 8hr course day, Permitium application filed, appointment made for fingerprints + photo
Aug 12: Fingerprints + photo
Aug 26: Permit issued, pending delivery in a few business days
Total: 22 days

Fees​

CCW Course: $150 + ammo (60rd)
Permit application: $110
Total: $260 + ammo

To carry in CA you have to have your CA CCW. You can add a non-resident CCW to get you covered in that state, I don’t know the ins and outs of NV but non-resident CCW in AZ or UT gives you reciprocity in a number of other states. Az and UT cover NV.

Do you already have a CA CCW? If so, next time just get an AZ nonresident CCW, which has NV reciprocity. The entire process can be done by mail and AZ accepts your valid CA CCW in lieu of training. If you don’t have a CA CCW yet, if/when you do apply, you can more than likely use the same training certificate on an AZ CCW application (double-check with the provider, of course).

Let it expire and get an AZ CCW. Way way cheaper, not even including the time and travel for the classes etc, and covers more states for reciprocity including NV.

@Gawernator Ah I think I found a problem. That the AZ method probably wouldn't have worked given I'm about to move to NV.

Apparently as soon as you become a resident of NV (as I am about to) the reciprocity thing ends and you must get an NV permit within 60 days. NRS 202.3688(2). I have to assume Washoe County (the place I'm moving to) is slower than Carson City so I guess I still made a decent move here?

Only way to carry in CA is to get a CA CCW. However many states offer “non resident” carry licenses. Like AZ and NV (most free states do). Those licenses will also get you reciprocity in other states, letting a Californian that roams be covered in most free states as well!

AZ is the easiest one to get!

I just move here to CA in June, my CA CCW is in process, my 16hr training is set for September. I was suppressed to leans even CA offered non-resident ccw’s!

Or get a Utah non-resident CCW permit that has reciprocity with NV. I frequently travel to both Nevada and North Carolina for work and those states also reciprocate with Utah non-resident.

But that would require taking a UT-certified class and getting a stamp whereas AZ will accept your CA CCW or CCW class as proof of training.

UT is good to add in WA state for travel, which AZ doesn’t cover.
