BX-25 magazine fix for failure to feed

I've seen a few fixes for the problem of failures to feed, see below.

1. Adding a 22lr brass case to fix wobble in the follower
2. Set screws on the opposite side of V-block screws to take up magazine slack when magazine is inserted.
3. Build-up backside of the BX-25 to make the magazine more secure w/less wobble.
4. Small washer between follower and magazine spring to prevent wobbling.

I tried #4 and still get failure to feed especially with first couple of rounds. Tried #1 but there is not much "looseness" to add a brass case to the follower.

Going to try #2.

Anyone else try any of these methods with success?

I have two of them but so far they have fed just fine, did they always function like that out of the package?

When I have issues. I disassemble, clean and lube with CLP( Weapon Shield). It’s usually carbon.

Has been this way since new. The 10rd box mags work as desinged. FWIW rifle is a Tacsol takedown 22. Could be the ammo as well i guess? Ammo is Aguila 40gr copper plated stuff.

The round seems to jam with the nose of the round jammed towards the top of the barrel extension. As if there is too much tilt upward?

Set screws arriving today. Maybe this will help push the magazine towards the rear more therefore helping with the tilt.

Will try cleaning the mags before this.

Funny, I'm still using several very old Butler Creek 25 round 22lr magazines for my two 10-22 rifles with no issues! When I say "old" magazines, I mean like mags from the 1980s! In fact the Butler Creek magazines I'm using still have plastic feed lips---these were made before Butler Creek switched to metal feed lips (which I bought several at that time), but don't them use as the plastic ones still function perfectly! I don't have any experience with the much newer Ruger BX-25 mags as they can out after the unfriendly California magazine laws...

When I got a job that comes with an exemption to the mag law I bought a BX-25 years ago. I have run thousands of rounds through that mag, never had a issue with it.

It turns out the issue was user error. The rifle I have is a takedown and the lock-ring on the receiver was not snug. Fixing this resolved my mag feeding issues.

PSA: I bought two packs of the BX-1/six mags a few months ago. Tried them out and they didn’t work at all - wouldn’t load all the way, and wouldn’t rotate sufficiently in the rifle. I contacted Ruger about this, but I got a generic reply, saying send them in, we’ll take a look.

But then I recalled that there was a disassbly/assembly kit for sale on the Ruger 10/22 Mag site. It was low cost so I bought it, then dialed up YouTube and found a video on how to disassemble/reassemble the Mags.

Turns out the tolerance between the rotator and housing was a bit too tight, plus the rotator had a bit of a burr on the edges. So I sanded the ends slightly with some 600 grit, the lubed the rotator and housing, then reassembled.

They worked GREAT after that, very smooth, cycled perfectly. So be aware, you will need to work on these, but the results are worth it.
