Body Armor?

Circling back to the OP's post. For home defense purposes soft armor may be the way to go, you even get soft armor with ceramic outside that will absorb a few rifle rounds. I have been looking at this (but it is very pricey) as it provides great coverage and also looks to be the most comfortable option for easily putting on and wearing. https://safelifedefense.com/shop/concealable-fras-flexible-rifle-armor/

For SHTF a kevlar vest with plate carriers fitted with coated plates are likely the way to go. There are plates out there that can take multiple rifle shots without spalling all over the wearer. These are heavy, bulky, hard to wear and also sometimes slow to fit. But probably the best option for heavy duty action, don't see if realistically for home defense unless things get way out of hand.
I am not sure you need any plates for home defense. You have the advantage of knowing your layout if someone seems to be coming in or at you at your house. Plates to me seem more for SHTF

Yep, for most home defense scenarios there will likely be zero time to grab and fit any kind of armor. Perhaps people in rural areas may have a longer heads up timeline and likely bigger issues to deal with.

Of course I was but I saw it for just for the manufactured 🍌 garbage it was pumped up by the media.
Again, I was tossed into an arena where I knew I was going to take fire at anytime day or night, I was taught reaction to suppress if need be.
NK's can't shoot for the life of them just like most liberals lol.
Put propaganda is what pushes people to do things that they might otherwise not do.

I find all the discussion of body armor interesting.
Without going into possible scenarios that I envision for it’s use, I will offer a little about my own personal training in regards to such.
We are fairly confident in saying that bad people of all sorts (including those who are state sponsored) may wear armor during their activities. For this reason, a good portion of the training curriculum should include placing rounds on target to specifically stop threats so equipped. This means that specific areas such as the sides, low back, face, neck, groin/hips, legs, are all specific targeted areas in addition (of course) to the traditional center-mass engagement. Looking at a lot of the armor being offered for sale suggests that the protected coverage areas are not that big, and many areas are left open to projectile strikes that most certainly would take one out of the fight, at least long enough for you to gain a position of advantage and finish your work. This is born of the fact that it is impractical to provide enough coverage to protect all body areas; one couldn’t move about freely if so equipped.
In the past, many professionally hosted classes I attended focused on placing two rounds to the body, center mass. Also taught in nearly all was the “failure drill”, being that if the first two center mass hits didn’t stop the threat right away after an initial assessment, another round was to be placed to the head. Going forward, IMO, every engagement should be treated as a failure-to-stop, without hesitation. Assessment can occur well after the target is down and more rounds have been placed while they are down, or retreating. This is yet another reason why citizens need standard capacity ammunition load outs. Be they magazines, belts, or whatever, capacity limits damper the ability to deal with body armor wearing threats. So, train with the expectation that your adversary will be wearing armor.
I will go even further with the training. What is your gear?
Do you wear a belt?
do you wear plates?
do you carry a minimum 3 day pack.........loaded?
Water food?
Most people only imagine what they would do with their gear. how many actually train with their gear.

They aren’t anywhere near THAT heavy. If you can’t walk but 100 yards with a set of steel plates on, you have FAR bigger problems than your gear.
Again, that comment came from someone who probably has bought gear but does not train with it at all. You

Having armor doesn’t hurt but doesn’t always make complete sense. Your money though. I don’t get too heavy into it because I get what I need for work and leave it at that. So here it goes in summary:

Work vest is an outer carrier that runs soft armor and ICW hard plates. Soft armor is Point Blank NIJ Level III. ICW plates are 10x12 American Blast Systems NIJ Level III. They were some of the thinnest and lightest in the market while still having an NIJ rating.

The American Blast Systems ICW is supposed to be able to take a few hits of 5.56 before serious degradation and I believe a couple hits from a 7.62 bullet. The idea for the ICW is to slow the bullet enough for the soft armor to catch it. If you’re taking a couple of 5.56 bullets, I’d be more worried about blunt force trauma than anything.

I bought all of that on my own dollar because my agency was being cheap about when my vest renewed, etc., etc. so I bought better than what was issued which is allowed in our orders.

I was also issued a 5.11 carrier with Level III ceramic plates. They took those back after I left the field (weird because they were “expired”) so no idea what they were going to do with that.

Since I don’t carry my vest around and work in a plain clothes capacity nowadays, I went and bought my own gear again. Grabbed an LAPG carrier with some of their LAPG Level IV 10x12 plates.

They’re made in Commieland but they are NIJ Level IV standalone plates so there’s that. In all reality, I’m not wearing them all the time, and it’s in my trunk for those big deal incidents (think active shooter) where I may be the closest asset. Something is better than nothing and my rifle along with my tactics will do me much more good.

I want a better ballistics helmet but that doesn’t make sense for me so why drop the coin? Same goes for my other purchases.

Yeah it's true that all steel plates have a high risk of spalling and causing big issues. If you want armor just save up. 5.7 can pierce soft armor, but very few people use it. Soft armor covers far more of your body than plates do. I think your first step is to ask yourself what scenario are you going to wear armor? If it's for like some civil unrest or something, I think being able to conceal the fact that you're armored is maybe as important as having it (showing up anywhere with a plate carrier is going to get you a lot of negative attention). If it's for some sort of all out civil war, then Yeah, plate up. But just know the limitations of the plates. You can hold a piece of paper to your chest and see that there's a LOT of real estate that's not covered by plates. But, you do look cooler, and that's really all that matters haha.
