My goal this match was to keep my gun up as much as possible and I think it paid off. Still new to competition shooting don’t come after me.

No need to go after you, good shooting and getting out there. Really good pace, just improve the D’s. Solid shooting for someone “new to compeition”. You have a good foundation.

Thanks dude! This marks my 3rd local match. I think it’s time to put on some big boy pants and do a NRG or oh shoot. I have a really hard time calling my shots. I could only really see them if I hit black or a no shoot. I’d like to say I’m not dot focused but when running and gunning it’s just hard for my eye to pick up. Any tips on how to be target focused? I think it would help my doubles in the long run.

It's just practice, everything goes to 💩 when you are trying to go as fast as possible. Calling shots is more about feel.if you can't see them, you can tell if it's off. Just maybe practice a bit more confirmation on harder shots

Yeah maybe I’m doing it backwards, I should focus on fundamentals then push speed. Also when the day goes on and a target is ran through already it’s hard to tell when there’s pasties everywhere 😭
I’ll just have to trust in my dot picture and follow with a good grip and trigger pull.

i mean you are brand new, don't overthink it just go shoot matches and practice. You should try everything, you are naturally fast so you need a bit more confirmation. I am naturally slow so I'm trying to do the opposite which is speed up and get worse hits lol. There's no magic bullet it's just go get experience and see what works for you. I don't have a great range near me to just go set up targets unless I drive over an hour so I treat matches like practice and will just try stuff. You score literally doesn't matter it's all arbitrary

Thanks dude, youve been extremely helpful from the ground up with the build and all my other questions. Appreciate you brother!

I’ve run the last 2-3 competitions with an occluded dot. For me, it’s helped significantly with shot calling since I’m forcing my brain to be target focused, and I’ve been able to better see when I should take that extra shot to make up for a mike. Give it a try if you haven’t yet.

I’ve done it dry firing but I haven’t with live fire. This should be interesting. Thanks!

It’s good to see people at events like this one. I just got a text and a couple photos from my youngest sister in Colorado. She and her family are at a shooting competition with their trailer selling food. She not only shoots but also reloads.

You are doing a good job of that. Also looking comfortable with your stage plan.
I think your time was similar to the stage winner, within 1 second.

It looks like you call your shots. On the last target, you immediately took a make-up.
Shot calling is becoming aware of where the dot lifts from.
I like to put a used target on the front and a clean target on the back, and only tape the back. After a string of fire, you try to call out what the hits on the back targets will be before confirming/taping. As long as your impact is within a few inches of where you "called," you're doing it right. (Steve Anderson Drill?)

From what I saw, your fundamentals and gun handling are squared away.
Probably just need to "Drive at full speed" more often to see what it takes to maintain your grip and vision at those speeds.

lol okay you’re comparing this new guy to Brantley 😭

Brantley is a rare breed and he still doesn’t lean back
watch the second half of OPs video where you can actually see his position from the side, it's perfectly fine. Lots of people shoot more upright you don't have to crunch over but there's plenty of shooters that do that too. It's personal preference.
