Best “Top of the Line” IWB Appendix Holsters

It’s the price. Also most people chase race aiwb holsters now. Time and place. Ive chased holsters for a long time. Probably realistically over 4k over 20 years. Im hoping they do a 17/47/19 style. In the easrly days of the vsb pre release orders they teased a double stack version. If you value concealment and comfortability the vsb does not disappoint.

Tried the Tenicor Velo, didnt like the built in wedge. Returned for a Certum, l, no pillow, no wedge, love it.

Waiting on a T1C XIPHOS Elite. I hear good things so Id like to see how that one feels. Based on that, ill buy another for a different firearm.

Maybe you get a winner on your first one but most likely youll buy a few and go through some trial and error.

What about the wedge bothered you? Just felt too thick and took up more space?

I’ve never even tried a pillow, but since I’ve started developing a dad bod it’s harder to keep the grip from sticking out when not perfectly in the right spot on my waist and I heard the wedge helps

I’ve never used a wedge, but just based on hearing about them I wanted one on my next good holster. I’m a father of 3 under 5 and have started developing the matching dad bod so it sounded like a wedge could help with keeping the grip from bulging out

You’ve tried them and don’t find them that necessary it sounds like?

For the full size guns no because the slide sits low enough to not tilt out. I’ve gained weight since my first born as well. The smaller guns like my xd9 subcompact and the shield require a small wedge that I make out of yoga blocks and double sided Velcro tape.

Took a shot because he was one of the few making a sidecar AIWB for the Olight PLx at the time. Ended up ordering an OWB to pair with it. Prices were very reasonable and I always enjoy trying to help out small shops...figured what the hell....let's give it a go.

Started off terribly. Never received a confirmation email (strike one) or any correspondence after reaching out (strike two). Gave him a day and decided to file a claim when the 24 hours--and my patience--expired (strike three).

Next day, get an email. "Sorry....spam...one man operation over here...etc". "I'm actually almost done."

Two days later, I had both in hand. Showed up about 3.5-4 weeks ahead of schedule.

Conclusion: Crazy start but, in the end, very pleased with the results.

For context, my stomach is flat. It actually just kind of felt uncomfortable. I didnt like the pressure it created. I thought I would like as I went with it first but the flat CERTUM just feels better and the concealment is still great. Tenicor has an awesome return policy, they took it back no questions asked.

Lots of folks on Reddit like the CERTUM with the Mastermind tactics pillow.

Looking forward to my T1C to compare. Although im happy with the Tenicor, im willing to take the chance to find the perfect holster even though T1C's return policy isnt as generous.

I considered the Phlster enigma, but it seemed like enough extra work to get dressed that I might be deterred from wearing my holster just to run to the store or something, where as a belt clip holster I can take on and off without removing my pants. Otherwise for continuous use throughout the day it sounds like one of the very best setups

For me would be situational especially if I am wearing gym shorts, pants with only elastic bands and no belt loop.

Been carrying with a T1C MSP Pro Flx. Allows me to carry any of my guns with the same holster using the TLR-1 light. I also have a T1C Axis Elite for my XD without a light, but I rarely carry without the light.

I’ve always rolled with Tier 1 aegis. Just so I can run without the side car on days I want to go light. Super underrated but the safariland incog x is good too.

Belt wise I use the hunter constantine, or tight chutes fanny man bag thing. I do want to try the leisure carry belt seems pretty genus.

There are plenty of good holster makers. Personally, I like Tenicor, Phlster, KSG Armory, and JM Custom Kydex because they each make holsters that have features that work well for me. There are others that make similar holsters, but I’m never sure if they do the small things like polish their edges well, which makes me hesitant to branch out when I need a new holster.

Since so many people talk about the built in wedge from Tenicor, I’ll add my experience. I bought a Sagax Lux that has one. I don’t like the built in wedge. It’s made for what they believe the “average” person needs. For me (5’9” 200lbs), the wedge does not do a good job preventing printing. It cants the grip of the gun into my body well, but causes the red dot to print even worse than it does without a wedge. If I didn’t have an optic on my gun, it would work well though.

Because built in wedges are built with certain assumptions that may or may not hold true for my circumstance (body type, gun configuration, carry location, etc), I prefer holsters that leave the back flat so that shape my own wedge out of yoga block and attach it via Velcro, if I determine I need one. If my weight fluctuates and I begin printing with the wedge I made, I can shave it down or make a new one and use it on the same holster. That’s my preference for a wedge and why.

Another feature I like in a holster is for it to be ambidextrous by allowing the hardware to be removed and placed on the other side to switch between left and right hand configurations. That way, if I break my arm or something like that down the line and am in a cast, I can have a family member assist me in switching over the holster to be carried for drawing with my support hand while I heal. It’s not a huge concern of mine, but there are a lot of really good holsters (Phlster, KSG Armory, etc) that allow for this at no additional cost that have all the other features I want, so it’s a small differentiating factor when I go to make a purchase.

Tenicor is good. I like their Certum 3 and Certum 3 Lux. I am not a fan of molded wedges on the Velos since they are very uncomfortable. I have one for a 1911 Commander and it's useless to me. The problem with Tenicor is they offer holsters for a very limited selection of guns.

Another great maker is JM Custom Kydex. I like their AIWB 2.0 and 2.5. I recommend them highly. You get quite a few mounting holes. I offset the hook on the right. Note you can use normal clips and loops at the top and turn it into a strongside holster by removing the wing. I probably have 20+ JMCK holsters.



Keep in mind that Discreet Carry Concepts steel clips, while excellent, do not have a long enough clip for some applications. In the JMCK holster above, I would prefer the top edge of the clip be at the level of the exposed holes at the top.

The best is the 5 Shot Leather SME. This is a 14 hour a day holster with a 1911 Government. I have owned a ton of holsters and this one is by far the best. I add velcro to the back and use a Mastermind Tactics pillow (click link). You should use a pillow regardless of holster you buy because they're fully adjustable and don't heat up like foam wedges.


Of course, you could go old school with a Milt Sparks Summer Special with their Retro single loop option. While the site says 1911's, they can do it for many different guns, such as a Ruger LCR:

I've been using the T1C MSP Pro Flex for about 3 1/2 years now and love it. I use the TLR-1HL light and it allows me to carry any of my guns comfortably, from the Echelon 4.0C, to the XDM 3.8, to the XD9 full size, and to the S&W M&P 2.0 10mm. Great holster.

Tenicor. Gives you all the stuff (cam bars/clips) to adjust the holster the way you want/need without extra charge. The retention on the holster doesn’t compare to others and is adjustable. The kydex they use is thicker therefore sturdier, and CS is quick to respond/resolve issues with an order.
