Bersa Firestorm safety backs out while firing.

Breaking in a new Bersa Firestorm I noticed that sometimes the safety starts backing out of the slide. As in, after a few rounds you can see the safety move from right to left (in the same manner in which you'd remove the safety to remove the firing pin). Even to the point of disengaging from the right side of the slide. The safety is a bit mushy, but makes positive engagement with the detent.

I'm thinking either the detent spring is weak, or the detent itself too short, or the detent holes/indents are too shallow. It started happening after about 50 rounds, which got me thinking it's possible the detent wasn't properly hardened and has worn.

Anyway, if I wanted to replace the detent and spring it looks like I'd have to drift out the rear sight at which point the detent and spring should just come right out?

You are correct. However if it is a new firearm I would take it in for warranty repair.
It sounds like the spring is weak or broken.

I have over shot 400 rounds through mine with no problems yet. The only problem I have had was finding original Mags for it some of the aftermarket mags suck.

It's going back for warranty repair. Ah well, it's a fun gun to shoot so hopefully it comes back perfect.

Had several Bersas along the way, the safety is definitely not supposed to wander outa the slide... hopefully the factory can fix it up right!
