I have an old M9 that I use as a test platform. Decided I wanted a full-size frame with compact slide.

Last year, 2025 I purchased a complete compact slide, barrel, internals from EBay for $200 like new condition. It was a 92f slide so first I needed to convert it to 92fs specs since I want to keep all features of the 92fs model.

So, for a compact slide to work on a full-size frame without causing damage and for factory slide travel length to remain the same, 3mm of material need to be removed from the from guide rail/ barrel lug rail area. Both compact and full-size slides should have a total travel length of 50mm, hence the removal of the 3mm of material.

Since once the material is removed and the slide will never contact this area, by all counts there should be no wear or tear on front edge of area that is no longer anodized. I will shoot a few thousand rounds this year to verify this, though others report no damage, etc. I still plan a lot of more mods to this so it will be a long time before I refinish or hard chrome this.

You can see bare aluminum where material removed from slide and frame.

The second pic is taken from internet to show difference in rail size. You only need to take 3mm off the front face, not slide rail also as the slide can never travel rearward enough to contact the frame rails on the top.

Quick cold blue of frame and slide for rust protection and to visually verify undue wear if any on the milled spots.

Oiled and put back together. Added my Langdon Tactical Trigger in a bag kit (minor fitting in n action bar overtravel bump and it is awesome! Entire kit NP3 coated.

Next, once a get a DRO for my mill ( = less math, etc) I will try my hand at milling slides for RDO factory plates.

I have done a few of those.
Measure the specific plate and cut the slide to fit that specific plate.
The factory cut slides that accept the factory plate is a very sloppy fit with any of the factory plates.
The plates don't seem to be consistent as each of them that I have done had to be cut a little different to fit well.
