News Australia to tighten gun laws after Bondi Beach Hanukkah massacre

Exactly, Switzerland has high gun ownership yet this doesn't happen. Why is that?
They speak 3 different languages, French, Italian or German depending where you live there.

They are an evolved, homogeneous population, not much immigration and nearly all white. Multiculturalism is limited to 3 languages.

The Government will never admit it's their fault. The scapegoat will always be the law abiding citizen. Criminals will never obey the laws.

Switzerland also has free healthcare, and care programs for addicts that don't criminalize drug use. Additionally depending on where you live everyone gets stipends of some sort to support cost of living.

It's almost like when people have a bare minimum of everything they need to live with basic comfort and aren't constantly under the pressure of their life imploding if they make a single misstep flipping to emotional psycho edgelord mode just magically rarely happens.

not to mention Switzerland isn't the "white homogeneous society" that people assume it is. I'm not sure why people think you need to be all one race to have healthcare but you may want to look at that a little deeper and what motivates you to think that. For those of us who have lived in Europe, they are just as prejudiced as America. They hate the guy from the next village over because they eat pasta with a different sauce. And yet, the still have come to terms with the fact that a social safety net results in myriad social benefits. The "good old days" occurred after the New Deal was implemented and had obscenely high tax rates on the rich. Far be it from me why people want to donate their money to health insurance companies instead.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again.

I'll stop saying "thoughts and prayers" once the media stops saying "Known to police/local authorities"

Just like when people say that assault rifles are only for mass murder, when in fact according the the FBI Uniform Crime Reports, all rifle homicides nationwide are around 400 per year. Knives kill 4 times that. Fists and feet about 3 times.

I'm surprised they didn't already charge the man who tacked and took the gun away from the one killer with illegal gun possession yet!

Yeah that "known to police," yet...

And those who complain that healthcare is the issue and not guns are the same people who vote against having universal healthcare because it increases taxes, so naturally their reaction would be "just have more guns and arm our citizens!"

Just because we have more guns doesn't mean we'd have fewer unlawful shootings. Fewer deaths? Maybe. But most certainly not fewer shootings

Universal healthcare is universal mediocrity. Year long waits for basic diagnostics like an MRI. And let’s look at what Canada, with their universal health care system, is recommending to people now. No thanks.

The wealthy in the EU don't use their government supplied health care. They fly to America and pay cash for the best in the world.

No quotas, no wait list. The solution is to be successful.

Let's not do the equating thing - no other country in the world is like the USA - culture, size, diversity, etc.

If you ever have to go through Medicare for something major, you might be surprised as to just how efficient and clean it is. I certainly was. Medicare is what universal healthcare would look like in the US.

My conservative boomer parents changed their tune on healthcare when they started using Medicare. They are very happy with it and they use it A LOT

We might be able to afford Medicare for all here if we didn't have a 900 billion per year war budget and over a trillion dollars per year intrest payments on money we already borrowed and spent.

Excuse me if I don’t take your word on that. I still remember being promised that I could keep my doctor.

That last round of “changes” has significantly reduced the quality of care I had grown to expect.

Australia had the worst covid response. You couldnt go on your porch for a smoke. This is what happens when the people are unarmed- gov tyranny. For this reason alone you dont give them up in my opinion

Let's be honest. You weren't going to point your gun at the police or military if we went into full lockdown like Taiwan or Australia

It is? The one time I tried to use it, it took way more than it should have. Multiple calls that went unanswered, waiting on hold for hours at a time, getting India or AI when I finally did get through to someone instead of someone who I could actually understand… I can’t say I was impressed at all. Unimpressed? Very much so.

I heard recently on the radio, so I'm not sure of the source, but it was mentioned that Australia has more guns now then before this "but back" in the 90's.

The numbers where one million guns where taken or "bought" back buy the government. Which equated to 29% of the total firearms. More then one million firearms have been sold since then.

If this information is correct, then it would invalidate the narrative that their buy back program worked. Instead, something else is at play and not firearms for the claimed lower crime

It was also mentioned that for roughly 15 years before the program, crime was already on a down trend and continued for a few years after but it had slowly been rising since
