Question Legal Asking for someone else (no it’s not me). How bad can it get for them?

Yah, supposedly there was some conflicting information as to whether or not the firearm used was listed on his permit or not at the time as well as whether that even mattered if the incident took place on his private property/while at home.

Never dug much deeper into it though.

Minor traffic stop; I listed that already.

Hard learned lesson, it seems. I’m so paranoid about losing my permit; that I may be puttering around my house with a pistol not on my permit; but switch to one on my permit just to check the mailbox a couple of hundred feet away. And, never mind that strong urge to carry your shiny newly-purchased EDC while awaiting the modified permit to come in the mail, before carrying it. I’ve worked too long and hard; and spent too many $ on permits and qualifying, to risk losing the ability to carry over violating a condition of the permit. You pay to play in this State. We may not like it; but it allows us to stay in the game when all the politicians try to do everything in their power to strip us of our 2nd Amendment rights.

What ticket did the nice LEO write? Carrying an unlicensed, loaded concealed weapon doesn’t seem to be a simple infraction.

The identity of the IA would make a difference as it would tell us whether the IA uses the out-dated form you posted (The current form is dated 1/2024,) or goes through a vendor like Permitium.

From that we could tell if your friend was reasonably advised of the need to qualify before carrying, although that seems intuitively necessary based on initial issuance requirements. In Sac County, the Permitium App requires submittal of training records for substituting weapons.


To your friend’s situation: it would be better to have them notify the IA of the oversight than to have the IA pick up the information on their own.

Your friend is trying to play dumb and I think he thinks you're dumb too. Call him out. The "I didn’t know" argument makes no sense.

He qualified each firearm before and spent months preparing. He knew just isn't being straight up with you. There is a missing story as to how this traffic stop resulted in a search. Lots of missing details.

Don't all Bay Area and Sacramento IAs require disclosure after LE contact or enforcement action? So him asking if he should contact his IA is also bizarre. This is an expensive and time consuming process playing dumb here doesn't add up.

He is also in the bandwagon thinking that we won’t be able to get Glocks anymore because of the cruciform trigger bill; but doesn’t know about being to acquire via ppt later on after January.

It is a stock 95 840ci, everything stock, no tint. Front plate was snatched a while ago and never got replacements.

Theres multiple things that get linked to your license and plates if they run them. The AFS can be brought up, or the deputy described you in detail to his fellow deputies.

No worries. Totally their/your right to privacy. Mostly just curious as I’ve never seen or heard of that form being something the permit holder was responsible for filling out and submitting.

Eeeeeeh if it’s even remotely a performance car, that is an auto-pull over for many LEOs. Easy justification for a stop to ding someone on an exhaust or other illegal mod. I guess it depends where you are, a rural sheriff is not likely to care but a PD in a big city 100%

At least 25% of the cars I see on any given day have no front plate. And they frequently have tinted windows (though not past the legal limit on the front side windows or windshield). Only one person I know has ever been stopped for not having a front license plate.

The Porsche dealerships would be shocked if you asked them to attach the front plate bracket...

I mean a mid 90s 8 series is pretty sweet and rare, it’s entirely possible he just described you and your car to a buddy recently and the buddy ran into you by chance, weirder synchronicities have happened.

WWI started because Franz Ferdinand’s motorcade diverted down a random city street after a failed grenade attack that made everyone scatter, the lead driver made a wrong turn and then stalled the car backing up, and Franz’ would-be assassin happened to be standing right there on that side street and ran up and shot him in the neck.

They always issue two plates for these cars...just one gets put on the car in the back, though.
