Well….if you are being a “purist” the piston guns probably dont count. Not that much part interoperability. All different systems. I would stick with something like the MCX spear because at least it uses AR10 pattern mags. The HK doesnt. B&T is one of my personal faves, but isnt “AR10” shaped. Piston guns are inherently heavier than DI guns and the original Spear also used a stupid heavy profile barrel, so was kinda front heavy. I have heard the new ones have a more reasonable profile barrel
Going DI JMO i think your best bang for buck is something like a Saint Victor or a tread or whatever Sig is calling theirs now.
If you wanna go lightweight my understanding is the Ruger SFAR has outgrown its teething pains (I had an early one and it had to go back to the shop but was reliable after that). Has some parts interoperability with AR10, but some not.
