Question Anyone get their CCW in Santa Monica recently?

Curious if anyone has any recent experience applying and successfully receiving their CCW and what the steps were after MyCCW submits their completed packet.

The application states they endeavor to do it within 90 days from when you apply or 30 days after receiving your background results, whichever is later.

DOJ completed all 3 on 2/15 and my packet was submitted on 2/23 but since then it's been radio silence. I inquired via email on 3/26 and have received no response yet. Wondering how it went for others.

Yep, true. They only have two approved vendors and it adds several hundred in cost. The session actually wouldn't have been a big deal in its own right.

What's significantly more annoying is they make you do some 300 question assessment that asks you the same question like 5 different ways trying to catch you in inconsistencies.

Not for Santa Monica but I also had to take the test. $500. The Dr. said it was odd that I scored exactly the same on the different categories and had never seen that before.

I'm glad I did'nt end up going through this with Santa Monica. I moved shortly before they even established a system for ccw. SGT McGee was very helpful and I was in contact with him early on in the process before they started issuing ccw. I remember how anti gun some on the city council were and they actually asked if they could make the process more expensive to discourage people from applying for CCW.

After Bruen, SCOTUS specifically noted that permitting schemes can be challenged if "lengthy wait times" or "exorbitant fees" are used to deny ordinary citizens the right to carry. Costly prob unnecessary psychological evaluations are clearly used. Using fees, delays or administrative hurdles to discourage applicants is bullsh*t.

Every single 2A advocacy organization will want details of that meeting.

I was not personally at the meeting but it actually got national coverage because the CRPA and other groups became aware of it and threatened a lawsuit. This is the problem with some of the people making decisions about CCW they are anti 2A and this woman was on record asking if they could make the fees higher so more people would not even apply for a CCW in Santa Monica.

So for CCW permits she openly stated she wanted to recover more than just its costs and to de-incentivize people from obtaining a CCW permit. That is wild. Then the city attorney responded that there would be legal risk in doing that. No sh*t?

What is also surprising is that SM did not back away from the process and still requires a psych assessment.

Yep it's crazy how emboldened they are and I don't think they even care about a lawsuit because they feel the courts will rule in their favor or be hung up for 10 years or more. Santa Monica has become more woke in the past few years so this did not surprise me.
