3x or 5x Prisms, what say you?

I use the primary arms 3x and its fantastic. The reticle has 5.56 bullet drop dots for 200-400 yards. Good enough eye relief for quick two eye shooting. The shake awake tech on them is awesome too. Batteries last years without turning off

+1 for PA 3x. I've ran the full gamut...red dots, green dots, gold dots, magnifier, no magnifier, LPVO. It's been the simplest in terms of rail clutter, and if you have astigmatism like me, nothing beats the crispness of the etched reticle. If I could do it all over again, I would have got the 3x and 5x for my ARs.

Also added bonus the PA 3x comes with the right risers out of the box to keep the optic at a more comfortable eye level.

So I ended up picking up a used Swampfox Trihawk 3x. The eye relief and FOV are surprisingly good. I have not taken it out yet so use is TBD. I talked myself out of the 5x plus a red dot. We shall see if this works out.

Interesting…I just looked at the actual PA site for the specs on the above prism 3X and they list it as 2.7 inch. That makes more sense as 1.5 is not even an option. So the above ad/description is a mistype .

Depends on what you are doing.
Sitting on a bench at Angeles plinking 300-600, I go with a 10x scope to see my hits.
If you are moving on pistol bay length stages, red dot bc I’m not trying to stare and confirm with the wind.
If you are hunting, under 6x.

Tweaking a long gun’s weight distribution is more impactful than randomly choosing magnification.
Sight disruption impacts the increased observational capability optics give you.

Go to Sac Valley or down to the ranges around Pendleton and check out when wind conditions settle. When the wind is steady or resets to familiar, the line rolls rounds faster. They’re stretching out at ranges past the easy hit point blank.

I’ve got a 2.5 fixed scout scope on my 30-30. I felt I had plenty of magnification when shooting steel out at 400 yards. This was a hunting rifle and not a bench rifle. For my 30-06 hunting rifle I have a fixed 4X scope. More than enough for hunting needs. If your rifle is meant to be a practical in the field rifle less magnification is better in my opinion. On my bench rest rifle I have a 3-9. Not enough power to see holes at 200 yards to make adjustments. So, if I didn’t want to use a spotting scope, I’d want more power on a bench rest rifle.

fun gun pa 3x. if you’re trying to punch paper with little groups some kind of LVPO/MVPO.

the pa 3x is lite, the eyebox is forgiving for a prism, it’s cheap enough to experiment.

the reticle is not precise, the mount is chunky, 3x is really not as much as you think it is.

pa 5x all the same with a tighter eyebox.
