.35 Rem Anyone? UPDATED WITH CURRENT PICTUES

Hi C&R Gunners,
Any of you fellas with some history under your belt (old farts), have time behind a Remington M8 or M81? Any caliber will do but I'm eyeballing an M81 in .35 Rem. It's obviously been in the field a few times, is kinda rough, stock carry worn and dinged, has a Willams receiver aperture, sorta looks like a Tech Site the way it cradles the receivers rear but does increase the sight picture substantially. I'm after the caliber because it's what Hammer used to dispatch Bonnie & Clyde (the action was the first successful commercial semi auto centerfire), I know it's a good Kali deer round for most distances game is acquired. When I was a wee lad, I humped a borrowed M8 in .30 Rem my first couple outings. In the '60s it was 50 years old then. My primary concerns are what parts might be in question. Is the barrel likely to be shot out or recoil springs worn? I'm thinking not for a seasonal use weapon, and the M81 was somewhat "newer". I think it's the next higher grade, checkering, recoil pad, the Williams aperture were catalog options.

I have a Marlin 336 and a TC Contender barrel in 35 Remington.

No direct experience but helped a friend with one.

Couldn’t find commercial ammo. There was a company in MT or WY that hand loaded ammo. Had to wait 6 months or so for the company to make a batch. He ordered a 100 rounds and keeps it with the rifle.

He took the rifle to J&G in Rocklin. They inspected, cleaned, and fired it (he had a box of old ammo). Said all was good.

The cool part - he had his grandpa’s ammo carrier and hunting license.

Oiled it up and is sitting in the safe.

It's not a good California deer round because we need to shoot copper which generally needs to be over 2000 fps at impact, 35 Remington is a low velocity round.

I was there in Manteca 2 days ago, .35 Rem. in jacketed lead (cor-lock?), it was/still is a great round. I don't know if bi-metal is even made. Haven't looked or done any research as I'm running .308 for Kali compliant boolits, PAX
