300wm 20 or 24 inch?

300wm, ar platform.
20 or 24 inch barrel? Just for range plinking. Is there that much of a advantage in a 24 vs 20?

For the belted magnum calibers I like the longer barrels for a few reasons, primarily all of the powder will be burned resulting in faster bullets. Longer barrels tend to be more accurate, less felt recoil and less muzzle flash.

If you shoot a lot of ammo, 300WM tends to wear barrels quickly, so if you wear out a muzzle, you can cut the barrel without losing much ballistic performance.

I agree the longer barrel is the better idea. Only reason I could think for a shorter barrel would be portability. If you’re just doing bench shooting that’s not really a concern.

Longer barrel makes the magnum work better.
A 20" 300 win mag is only a little better than a 24" 30-06.

Also, longer barrel is heavier which makes a magnum a little more tolerable to shoot.

Thank you. Also will be getting a Apollo max muzzle device. Should shoot as soft as my 308. Also getting a tubbs flat wire spring
