I'd like to know if there is much difference to the shooter between the CS and the P4 (the only CA option for regular people).

GENERALLY SPEAKING:
Staccato's lifetime warranty only applies to the original owner of the pistol. If you're having mechanical issues with the gun, you CAN still call us and we'll do everything we can to make it right, but most likely at your cost.

Off-roster pistols CAN be sent in for service as long as they've already been transferred.

FOR YOUR ISSUE SPECIFICALLY:
Magazine issues are tough because they're considered consumable items and the springs were swapped by the original owner prior to your purchase. If I were you, I would shop around in the aftermarket for alternate springs and followers, but I cannot recommend/endorse specific brands. I bet some folks on here may be able to guide you though.

Thanks for the reply! The mags were all originally staccato but I read online some people said switching the springs would help so i tried that and it did work for a while but recently the issue came up again so i thought maybe it was the gun.

So happy to hear you had a great first experience. If it had a grip safety, it wasn't an HD. The CS is the smallest model we make, and has a 3.5" barrel. If the gun you shot looked/felt really compact, it was probably that one.

In terms of the differences, I think the HD P4 is a little easier to shoot than the CS. It's a steel-frame gun with a longer recoil system, so there's a little less perceived recoil, but I don't think it's much. The P4 is also a 4" barrel vs 3.5 and takes a full-size G17 mag. If you're interested in carry, the P4 may be tougher to work with depending on your body type and how you carry.

When will STACCATO 2011 release a single stack 1911?

Technically, we've had two single stack guns under the Staccato brand. The very first one was the (original) Staccato C - a true Officer's Model, single stack with 3.5" barrel. The other one was the Staccato R. The R was a full-size 5" single stack. Both have since been discontinued. Will we ever make another single stack? I honestly don't know. Not in the near future, for sure. But I am still a single stack fan and shoot/carry them, from time to time, so it'd be fun to see if we ever circle back to that.

My question is, what was it that made the HD P4 be the first Staccato to be produced as a CA compliant version?

The HD brought a lot of changes to the 2011 as a platform, or family of handguns. It was a significant technological advancement against what people thought of when they heard the term "2011". That big step forward for the pistol also gave us the chance to examine where we were at as a company, and it made us realize we wanted to take some steps we hadn't taken before as a brand. A specific CA-compliant model was part of that. So was increasing our direct engagement with customers through places like CAguns, other forums, and social media. Long story short, we had an opportunity to self-reflect and felt it was time.

I have some money burning a hole in my pocket and am considering the P4. My question is around the sights.. .

I am not a red dot guy and it looks like it comes as dedicated red dot gun with the extra height backup sights with the rear sight mounted fore of the mounting plate. Is there a replacment sight that can mount in that plate? Big fan of trijicon HD, is there a similar option avail?

The HDs seem to have a lot of proprietary parts. Are there any plans to offer options like a drilled and tapped mag release so that an extended mag release button can be added? Or a variety of recoil spring weights to match varying power factors in ammo used? Or a thumb safety that sits a bit lower so people gripping high under the beaver tail can still ride the top of the thumb safety without feeling pain at the base of their thumb? Or different triggers (e.g., flat, curved, short, medium, long, etc.) to match different hand sizes and shooting preferences?

And just so everyone knows, the gun is GREAT. I picked mine up a week ago. The feel is excellent, the quality is superior, the accuracy is outstanding, and the reliability is unmatched. I would just like some options to customize the gun to my own liking like I do with all my guns. And without a doubt, as soon as I get the email about the HD P4.5 CA, I’ll be getting that too. I will be carrying the P4, and if I can make just a few adjustments on the P4.5 I’ll be using that for USPSA Limited Optics. Thank you, Staccato. And welcome to California!

Right now, our focus is filling out the HD line as a comprehensive family of pistols. I suspect parts like these would come after that. As an end user myself, I'd keep an eye on the aftermarket for some of this stuff though.

I heard Staccato got someone or a company that makes island barrels and that is the next thing to come to the HD line.. Seeing as how the C4X came to california immediately, we will see an island barrel soon and make that way to the roster list? I like my little C4X, so glad I didn't get the 3.6 when it came out, but that one is nice too
