They can't even deny it unless he messes up on the background check. You can sell a gun with no issues man, everyone can change their mind, its not even a thing. Do not abuse it is what California wants to avoid. Do not be a small gun dealer lol

You buy a gun you didn't like, or found one you liked better... nothing says you have to keep the one you don't like (other than perhaps paranoid interpretations of crazy CA laws).

If your buddy can pass a background check no problem, why would he need YOU to make a "straw purchase" for him... he WOULD NOT. So no straw purchase for a prohibited person is involved. If you (or the FFL you bought from) are really concerned, use a different FFL for the sale. If for some reason it flags, you just sold your buddy a gun he liked and you didn't want it anymore because you found a "better" one.

SInce firearms transfers/transactions are so tighly regulated it actually FORCES people to buy guns they may discover they don't like, because it's often impossible to "try before you buy" or return a gun because it doen't "trip your trigger". If anyone asks, point out the divorce rate... that oughta shut down the argument! "Relationships are complicated"!

I've sold some guns and regretted it enough that I bought another the next opportunity that came up... this kind of thing happens in crazy CA gun world <shrug>. I've just sold a bunch of guns that were replaced by guns that suited me better, again, crazy, or normal, or...

No, the worst thing that can happen is that you end up like Lieutenant Gourdikian, but nothing in what you’re planning on doing is like the activity he engaged in over a 3-year period. Gourdikian sold over 100 guns, including 80 brand new off-roster guns that he purchased with his LEO exemption. He sold them for profit on Calguns with descriptions like “off roster,” “BNIB” (brand new in box), and “never fired.” 79 of the guns we’re re-sold within six days after he purchased them. Besides engaging in the business of selling guns without a license, he also pled guilty to making a straw purchase when he misrepresented on the form that he was the buyer of a gun when he was actually purchasing it for another person who could not legally purchase it without him purchasing it first with his LEO exemption. He re-sold that gun the same day he took possession of it.

When I dros my G45 last week they now make you sign other stuff and go over something with you only if it’s off roster something new even the worker was confused

I have not seen this and bought several OR's this year. Did you buy any parts that were shipped to the FFL or something similar? You may just be signing off on all the policy stuff some FFL's/Gun stores have. Turner's has a 2-pager of notifications you need to initial, J&R Sports has like 4, most likely that's what it was.

What happened to those firearms he sold?

With the exception of the one that was confiscated during a drug bust, the rest are being used, bought, and sold like any of the other off-roster guns that people acquire via legal exemptions and then resell to the public-at-large at marked up prices.

Guess it depends on how fast you cycle through guns. If this is your first transfer in years don’t think anyone would care vs if it’s your 25th in 6 months.

I'd bet dollars to donuts that the drug bust was what triggered the "issues".

Any gun found to be involved in a crime will usually initiate a "trace" to find out how that gun came to be involved in a crime/posessed by a criminal... if that traces back to a cop, there would be hell to pay, especially if there was a pattern of misconduct as in that case...

Moral of story: don't engage in sketchy transactions with sketchy people who are prohibited from owning firearms...

Presuming OP's bud is neither sketchy or a criminal... he's probably perfectly safe. But the law has done it's intended deed, making law abiding citizens cower in fear... Thanks, California....
