Yeah I know. If a repro is $1900 doesnt that make service grade GI mixmasters with GI wood worth even more? Im sure the new production rifles will be beautiful but that price doesnt seem competitive. Glad I picked up a few service grades when they were cheap.

The Garand is CMP Springfield.

The carbine is a NPM 1943

NPM = National Postal Meter, it's kind of funny but they had the reputation of building the highest quality M1 Carbines of the war! Kudos to you for finding one!

Huh. I didn’t know that. It was the best functioning/looking one when I was perusing a few once upon a time. It’s always worked just fine (had ARbarrels take it apart and headspace check etc). And it’s fun to shoot 30 carbine. Just sorta PITA to find the brass cause it ejects forward. I’ve always wanted an IBM. Just seems kinda cool to me

Carbines are great rifles and were extremely successful at achieving their goal that they were produced for. I have a 1943 Rock-Ola that I wouldn't sell for any amount of money.

As for new production Garands going for $1900, I don't see why they wouldn't sell pretty well. M1A's are way less iconic/cool and have sold fine for decades.

Nice to know. I sought out a NPM carbine just for the connection to the 'all-hands-on-deck' war effort. It's a very nice example and shoots great.

I grabbed a Springfield Garand in the mid-1990s from Turners via the CMP for $225, and a Underwood Carbine for $135. I refinished both stocks with Tru Oil after using finish remover and sanding to bare wood, then using Minwax dark walnut stain. Haven't shot either in a long time, but put a lot or rounds through them back in the day, and both work flawlessly.
