New accounts should have ads with warning or have a wait time to post ads

A massive red banner in the description box saying something along the lines of "this is a new user, no reviews, do not send deposits, use caution" would help

or just stopping new accounts from posting ads right away without either a positive review from another account, a minimum account age to post, or minimum forum posts

This user is quite tricky. We’ve been playing a cat and mouse game for the last week. I’m not going to say what I’m doing but I will say I’m aware and studying his methods.

I mentioned in the other thread I’ve been a bit distracted trying to moderate but keep reporting. Fortunately, he’s pretty obvious. I’m hesistant to put some restrictions in place because of one user but will consider it if I can’t find another solution

These get taken down quickly, the reporting by users has been great. This guy is jumping through a lot of hoops and I keep putting up more hurdles so he’s quite persistent.

This is telling me though quite a few computers are compromised in CA.

Btw, I should also mention, the badging system is supposed to be that.

Every user has the title New Member on them.

I can put more restrictions but I’m hoping the visual cues are enough to let people know. The other way is feedback.

There’s several things we offer here including our verification to add layers of security. Ultimately it’s up to the user to do due diligence and we also have a message to all users to notify us if there is a request for a deposit.

We can also implement minimum posts to post a classified but id like to see if that’s an option with a paid bypass. I’ve seen that setup on other forums.

20 posts before being able to post to classifieds or pay to post ahead of that as a verification. Up until now I’ve only done free options and had the badging system

In my (limited) experience, minimum posts just means that some scammers spend 10 minutes on a bunch of contentless posts. But maybe it works to prevent some other scammers.

Among other ways, such as ikeo's list- consider new folks should get introduced/a referral from existing members (>90 day members or something) and they're good to go.

Should be a minimum post count to post ads and maybe require an intro post as well seems to be a common method to prevent or limit this crap.

The additional safeguards seem to be keeping him out. I am thinking of a post count or payment to bypass though so I’ll see what kind of effort it takes to get that in.
