My son wants to get a CCW and I'm in shock...

My son recently expressed an interest in getting a CCW, he's in Orange County. We looked up the current process and it seems things have changed since I last had a CCW in California and not for the better. Between the application, the live scan and the training it appears that the cheapest outlay is $718.00 and your license is good for two years. Basically a dollar a day to have a CCW. Oh and don't forget your CCW "Insurance" as you'd be a fool not to have it especially in California.

I now live in Texas and recently applied for a CCW. My total CCW cost in Texas was $122.95. The application $42.95, live scan $10.00, online course $45.00 and qualification $25.00. The CCW is good for five years. Basically 0.07 cents a day to have a CCW. On the shooting portion, you qualify with whatever gun you want to use and when you have your CCW you can carry whatever guns you want to.

I don't know what the time frames currently run for OCSD but I remember we usually started our renewals two-three months early. I could have done the entire initial process in Texas in a day and then they would have the CCW mailed in two-three weeks, renewals will probably be much quicker.

Posting this just for reference, not to rub it in or anything. I spent over 60 years here in Calif and know what it is to rage against the silly laws.

Cost seems to vary widely by County. I believe Santa Clara is over $1500!

90 days before expiration you can apply for renewal.
 
Please excuse my ignorance but isn’t Texas a constitutional carry state? Besides the obvious benefits of additional training, are there other benefits to getting a CCW in Texas?
 
CCW is hella restricted in CA for legal gunowners whether it be prerequisites, cost, and "legal places", but you know who gets a pass? Illegal immigrants, criminals, gangbangers.

Let's just say, I might as well fall inbetween criminal and legal gunowner. I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6 in CA.

Yes it is but there are many advantages to having a CCW.

I'll just copy and paste this:

You can blame Kavanaugh's Bruen opinion which gave a rubber stamp to licensing schemes

I'm sorry to hear that man. Seems Calif has made it much more expensive and difficult since my last time renewing with OCSD
 
I’m in Riverside. Probably the best county in CA to get a CCW. Cost of the class and permit was around $450, whole process from start to permit in hand was 35 days. Renewal every 2 years I hear is around $150

I’m grateful everyday that I tripped and landed in the county where Chad Bianco is the sheriff before I had ever even heard his name. He’d be an incredible governor, but it’d be a miracle if he could win in this corrupt state rigged by the democrats
 
Bruen opened up liberal run areas to getting a CCW permit. Their response was to make the effort slow and very expensive. That is another tool to limit applications.

In NYC it costs thousands. You have to pay to get rejected.
