This is the condensed shooting footage (feel to watch at 1.5x or 2x speed so that I look at least kinda fast) I have from my very first USPSA Match, of course edited and condensed to make it way more exciting!

Thank you for the folks at EDPS for being so welcoming and encouraging. Great experience up there, lots of great knowledge nuggets dropped through the 5 stages we shot.

Since you have just gone through it, any advice or suggestions for someone looking at trying it out? Whether prep, practice tips, gear, etc. Anything you would have done differently or not changed leading up to your actual event? I'm not someone who is ready for competition now, but hope to be there in the next year or two.

I'm working on my first match full video as we speak, there will be a ton of tidbits in there that I've picked up so far.

The most important thing I would say is to get out there and do it sooner than later. Wish I would have started years ago. Anyone is ready as long as you can be safe out on the range.

For me, my shots are almost always right where they need to be, just need to learn to move faster, waste much less time and follow my stage plan much better. Dry fire has always been a part of my routine, which helps a lot with the stuff like getting hits where you want them, reloads etc.

I setup a dry fire course in my house and it seems like it's going to help out a good bit by the time I go to my next match.

Gear, basically most of any holster or mag pouches, at least 3 mags if standard capacity or 5 if shooting limited 10. I saw battle belts, gamer rigs, AIWB, IWB, OWB of all kinds out there.

Only thing I would change at this point would have been to bring more mags, lol. Eventually I want to have enough mags to where I can literally have my entire match already loaded and not have to do any loading during the entire match. I could do this with Glocks already, which makes it tempting for sure.

Competition shooting is pretty simple. Move fast, get the best shots on paper, steel needs to fall. Whoever does it the fastest is the best shooter.

Best advice I can give you is to make an account on PractiScore, see if there’s any ranges near you that offer Intro to USPSA classes, and go from there. They’ll teach you most of what you need to know.

My brother shot his first USPSA match last weekend with my Shadow 2 and OWB. He’s fired a handgun at the range a max of 15 times in his life. He actually did pretty well. No DQs, good hits, just slow.

The best thing you can do is sign up for a match ASAP and let everyone on your squad know you’re new. The sooner you start gaining experience, the better off as a shooter you’ll be.

I thought you only NEED 3 10rd mags total (2 mag pouches)? Could you get through each stage with that and just reload them every time? How much time do you have between stages to reload mags? I may need to get more mags before my first match…

you need at least 4 if they are only 10 rd, the stages are up to 32 shots and you may need makeups for misses. You should really have an extra on top of that too because you could have a jam or accidentally press the mag release and need an extra mag. There's a reason the most popular divisions are the ones with mag extensions because then you will only use 2 maximum and carry 1 extra for three total.

The good news is that you can shoot in the Limited 10 division, and you’ll have a good chance of winning, since very few people still shoot Limited 10.

And yes, you can reload them after every stage. You’ll have plenty of time to reload your mags as other people are shooting. Just make sure you do it quickly so you can continue to help taping targets and resetting steel between shooters.

Hmm maybe I’ll just use my CZ75 instead of my echelon then as I have some standard cap freedom week mags and some 10 rounders for that. No red dot though

send the cz to Vigilante, 150 bucks for milling and cerakote. The Delta Point Pro footprint works the best because it's narrower than RMR, if you do RMR you need a plate and it's more expensive
