My AR15 ejects at 1 o'clock, recommend me an adjustable gas block

My AR15 ejects at 1 o'clock, please recommend me an adjustable gas block
Do you reload? If YES, I would be pissed!

Your brass is ejecting forward of the firing line. And if your range is anything like mine, it does not allow "brass scrounging" forward of the firing line, even during cease-fires.

Which means: you are losing all of your brass!

Which means, to be redundant and repetitive: you are losing all of your brass!!!

I do not reload. The majority of ammo i shoot is reloaded 55 grain 223 from gun shows, i barely touch my factory new ammo unless if it was a new barrel. I get similar results from factory new ammo. My barrel is totally overgassed, i once ruined a PSA carbine buffer from rapid firing.

I'm going through the same thing with an AR pistol build, and after changing to an H2, then H3 buffer with a Sprinco blue, it's still at like 2:30. Adjustable gas seems like the next step, at least for me.

The only adjustable gas block I have experience with is the Riflespeed, I shelled out the cash so I wouldn't have to deal with tools to adjust while tuning, but it seems like cheaper options are good too if you can get it right, set it and forget it (not like we're playing with suppressors out here anyways). With that said I learned the hard way that you definitely need to oil the Riflespeed after range days. Mine got carbon locked after ~600 rounds and it was a pain to remove and fix.

My AR15 ejects at 1 o'clock, please recommend me an adjustable gas block

Some info about my AR:

The upper is one of the early RADICAL firearms uppers, specifically the FGS model. It's a free float 16 inch barrel 1/7 twist, carbine length gas system. I usually shoot 55 grain 223. I tried swapping out my carbine buffer for an H1 buffer but it still ejects at 1 o'clock. I want it to shoot smoother and better so now I'm looking into putting an adjustable gas block on it. I never used an adjustable gas block before, please recommend me a good one.

Thanks

What is your intended role or purpose?

Depending on what the purpose of the upper or entire set up is intended for, its role or purpose is, over gassed isn’t necessarily bad as long as you are not having malfunctions because of the over gassing or pre-mature parts failure. If it’s for a defensive role; I would just leave it with the non-adjustable. That’s just me. If it’s runs; it runs. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

You could also start with a h2 or even h3 buffer. Over gassed for carbine length gas system, h2 is a good place to start. I noticed someone mentioned sprinco springs, I havnt tried the sprinco springs; but have read that’s a good combo too. I’ve read good things about tubb as well.

For other aftermarket springs, so far, I’ve only tried JP enterprise or heavy buffer (for .308).

Adjustable gas blocks are supposed to eventually involve maintenance; I.e. cleaning. I just started playing around with AGB’s by installing an Aero Precision AGB and also a Superlative Arms AGB. Intended role is for hunting purposes; magnified optic of choice is a scope. Not saying adjustable gas blocks can’t be used for defensive purposes.

However if you are set on installing an AGB, you listed as a requirement, smoother shooting/better/nice with the current set up; Superlative Arms. Heard good things about rifle speed, as someone mentioned here, it’s supposed to be easy to adjust without reaching in with a tool; nice and pricey.

He’s not losing it to his neighbor’s guest though…..🤣

The intended role or purpose for this AR was actually to be a budget shtf SPR/GPR rifle suitable to shoot at higher elevations at targets 300-500 yards away accurately in a forest environment lol (I was inspired while trail running and thought, "what kind of rifle should I have if I were to run up these mountains". It was an old upper I had laying in my safe for a long time, so I put a Sig Tango MSR 1-6x LPVO on it and it was accurate enough for me, maybe 1.5" groups at 100 yards?

I've shot about 250 rounds within 15 minutes and got it real hot and smoky. It has a 2.5 lb single stage trigger. Thats when I noticed how over gassed it was because so much brass was at 1 o'clock on the ground. The rifle really isn't that much of a smooth shooter. After reading the comments about having to clean AGBs, I think I might just sell this upper and find a 16" barrel with a mid length gas system.

I bought an Odin works barrel and it came with a simple adjustable block. I put red loctite on the adjustment screw. Not enough to lock it for good but enough to stop it from moving. Works great

The very first and easiest thing to do is throw another BCG in it just for troubleshooting. See what happens and how it changes. I looked back and didn’t see what BCG you were running? If it’s a lightweight or half mass carrier and you change the buffer to a H1, it won’t be noticeable at all.

Sounds like that gun obviously needs to slow the carrier down. Put a full mass/auto carrier in, see if it changes. Then put in an H3 buffer and different spring in and try to choke it out like @bonesurf said. You should see change, then tweak from there.

I wouldn’t personally run an AGB just because the potential sensitivity they have to cleaning. That’s just one more thing to over complicate things. Putting on an AGB is a bandaid anyway. It solves the problem but it would be great to determine what is causing the issue. Good luck
