Light Recommendations for 870 Express

Hi all,

Looking for some input on weapon light options for my Remington 870 Express that I'm setting up for home defense. Just got an 18.5" Mossberg barrel for it since my sporting clay shooting has moved to a dedicated gun.

I've been researching options and wanted to get some real-world feedback. I'm mainly looking at the Streamlight TL Racker. I like the integrated design but have seen mixed reviews about bulk and ergonomics. I'm also considering a GG&G mount paired with a Streamlight Polytac (https://www.gggaz.com/remington-870-flashlight-mount.html)

Any other options I should look at?

Would really appreciate any insights, particularly from those with hands-on experience with either option.

A little bit of real world experience here... It's hard to beat a dedicated Surefire light. Another thing to consider when running a light on an 870 is how to mount a sling. Once you toss a light on, you won't be able to use the sling swivel on the factory barrel nut (the sling will bind when racking the action). A good bet is to get a magazine tube extension with a side mounting sling attachment.

I have a Magpul forend, mlok mount and big nitecore light.

After years of using the Surefire dedicated weapon lights built into the forend, and trying all sorts of others, my #1 observation is that anything other than a pressure-pad switch will beat up your thumb/fingers that must actuate their on/off switches.

Thanks all, I got a Streamlight TL-Racker. It’s awesome so far. I know some people say it’s bulky, but I don’t have any issues with it.

Put a Magpul forend on the 870 Express, and add a light of your choosing.

Id highly recommend a forend integrated light either the streamlight or surefire. The bolt on options have a tendency to break/ fall off with use.

While I’ve never experienced this, I totally agree. Integrated into the forend is by far the best way to go. M

Man I have a Maverick 88 and it is such a pita that it cant swap the front grip/forend piece without serious work.

I took a shotgun class last summer and was told they stopped making them and have since become unobtainanium.
