May 8: submitted initial app and requested documents in person to my city PD front desk.
May 12: initially cleared to go get Livescan
June 5: City PD contact tells me to schedule for Psych eval
July 18: initial psych assessment
July 22: psych interview, had a retired LE who simply asked some general questions no trouble
Aug 5-7: 16 hour course in the evenings and range qualification
Sep 29: psych report FINALLY arrived to my city PD contact
Oct 1: City PD CCW sergeant interview
Oct 8: Police Chief signs off for approval, physical license to be picked up the day after during normal business hours.
Overall, the entire thing was (relatively) painless.
I have zero complaints for how my city PD handled the process even if I somehow didn’t know of the horror stories of LASD/PD wait times. My officer contact was nothing but pleasant and quick to respond for anything regarding the process or clarifying any restrictions of firearms mods if any.
My CCW class was very informative but laid back for a classroom setting. It felt more like a back and forth discussion than somebody simply reading off a PowerPoint.
The true bottleneck was the psych process. Having one company do it for THREE counties worth of applicants is insane.
