Holosun 508T or 509T? Help me choose.

Greetings everyone. I just purchased an M&P 2.0 10mm and have been researching which optic to go with this gun. I've narrowed it down to the the Holosun 508T and 509T because of the titanium construction. Since this will be going on a 10mm I'm looking at these two titanium bodied optics because they should be better able to withstand the battering that the 10mm can dole out.

Anyway, I'm hoping some here own these two and can offer insights. This is going to primarily be a range toy and home defense gun. I may add it to my CCW for giggles, but would only carry it when I go for walks in the neighborhood.

I'm leaning toward the 509 because it looks like it clamps onto the mounting plate much llike a pic-rail accessory, which seems like it might be a more secure way to mount an optic. The 508 is less bulky, smaller footprint, lighter, so would be better for CCW, though as I said, if I do add this to my CCW, I'd be carrying it less than 5% of the time.

Also, what about mounting plates? I'm leaning toward someting made of steel from C&H precision or Calculated Kinetics. Is that overkill?

Thoughts much appreciated.

If it's for ccw, I'd always lean towards less bulky. If it's for the range and high round count then the more secure clamps. In your case, I think either plate would be fine. It's not the plate as much as its the screws you need to keep an eye on.

Indeed. I've been reading as much. I wonder how much of the sheared screw stories we read are due to defective screws or people over torqueing because they are not using the proper tool to torque the screws to the appropriate spec. I purchased a "Fat Wrench" torque wrench/driver some years back. I don't use it often, but am glad I have it for the times I need it.

Probably a little of both, but it's a real problem. Considering you're using a 10mm even more so...

My 509t dot is brighter than my 508t dot; even on fresh batteries. 509t window is a little bigger too. 508t to clean the glass on the back side you need to reach in with a q-tip and lens cloth; due to being open emitter. 509t you just wipe outside on front and back since it’s closed emitter.

Very nice collection. I ended up ordering the 508T from Midway with a C&H mounting plate and Green dot reticle. We'll see how that works out. This is my first gun that can accomodate an optic. There will be more I'm sure.

Calculated Kinetics are always more recommended from what I've seen, but their plates will not work unless you remove the LCI. That is assuming you got the CA roster version.

Yes, CA version. I wanted to get the Calculated kinetics version as it has a ledge or lip of some kind that keeps the gases that escape from the non-CA LCI version (a witness hole basically) from crudding up the optic with carbon. As you pointed out though, I don't believe it will work with the CA version. Hopefully the CA version of the LCI will limit that since it somewhat obstructs the hole. I'm going to just have to wait and see.

For CK their site says the 509T plate is the only one that works for CA compliant models. I too was going through the struggle recently and ended up on the SCS-MP2 and still got a comp carry slide to get rid of the LCI.

This is good to know. I will probably get the 509T for my next optic.

CK confirmed that their plates will all work if the LCI is removed. When I pick my M&P 10mm I'm going see what can be done to modify it like some people have modified the p365 LCI. Unfortunately, Holosun reticles look like trash to my eyes, so I won't be running a 509T.

Yeah I think they're speaking in regards to the stock LCI. If you take it out anything works but you may get some fouling from the hole.

Oh man, I just called Midway this morning to change my order from the 508T to the 509T lol. I wear glasses (progressive lenses) so I ordered it with the Green reticle. Shockingly, I'm still able to shoot irons pretty well despite middle age and having to wear progressives, but I'm looking forward to an optic making that easier for me.

Which optic do you think you will end up going with?

I haven't decided yet, but whatever I get it will be an enclosed single dot in red. Or maybe a Holosun gold dot. I'm hopeful that works for me. Every green dot I've tried looks worse to my eyes than the red version of the same optic.

The Holosun Gold is very intriguing. I was tempted to order it, but midway was out, so I went with green instead. Hoping I don't have the same issue as you with regard to green colored reticles.

Why not EPS series. I have a bunch of holosuns from over the years and I really like the eps and eps carry. Im even looking to pick up another eps for another pistol.

I ended up going with the 509T for this since the housing is titanium and it's getting mounted onto a 10mm. I wanted to get something that will stand up to 10mm recoil. The EPS is likely going to be my next optic for a 9mm.
