On July 19, the Compton Hunting and Fishing Club will hold it 78th Annual Fish Fry, located on our private 3 acre grounds bordered by the 710 freeway, large Edison fields and the LA River on a private street. Photos of prior events are attached. In 78 years, we have never had an issue, serving over 1000 meals each year.

This site will not let me attach a PDF of the flyer. Donation is $14 which includes a door prize ticket for a Traeger Smoker/Grill. Beer, wine and soda available. No personal beverages or ice chests. Continuous serving from noon until 5 PM. A large raffle is held after the serving line closes...you need not be present to win.

It was a success, as usual. Everyone raved about the food and wanted recipes....it is real simple - drop the fish into milk, let drain in a colander a bit and then dump into a mixture of 90% cracker meal and 10% flour with salt and pepper,, coat well in the mixture and fry. Tartar sauce is harder to minimize - 5 gallons of mayo, a gallon of dill relish, 10 onions (run though a coarse meat grinder, retaining the onion juice to add to taste,) a cup of mustard and a half cup of lemon juice.) We make 25 gallons worth.
Turnout was a bit light at 1020 meals served. We have hit 1300 in years past.

Meetings are held the first and third Thursday of every month. This is not a "pay your fees and join" club. It takes some time and effort. The club has some valuable real estate assets and income. It has a private, underground range to 100 yards - members and immediate family only. It owns a couple hundred acres in Ventura County off Highway 33 with outdoor ranges and RV hookups (no dump) and bathrooms with hot showers.
Show up to meetings, work parties and events to get to know members. Demonstrate that you are willing to put your time and money into the club and its activities. Monthly work party participation is expected of people who want to become members as well as accepted applicants. You will need 5 members to sign your application as sponsors, come to at least 7 meetings to be introduced after your app is accepted.

We do serve a free meal before each meeting at 6 PM. Guests are welcome. Show up and introduce yourself.
