CCW Qualifying Several Guns, and Holsters!

Hi All,

For CCW in Riverside County, do I need to initiate the process online with the Sheriff's office before taking the required class or can I just pick a class which meets requirements and go from there?

I have one more gun to purchase before applying (Bodyguard 2.0) for my CCW so i can group my carry guns all at once.

Do i need a Kydex holster for each gun I plan to qualify with? I saw that with at least one site explaining qualificafion, leather holsters aren't allowed, and I'm pretty sure pocket holsters aren't either. Seems like they emphasize Kydex.

Or, could I have a generic holster that fits all of my carry guns for qualification only? It's probably gonna take me a bit to figure out which holsters will work for me.

I read that the qualification is for 15 yards, 10 yards, and 7 yards in succession. I usually train at 15-16 yards so I'll need to make sure I'm reasonably accurate with any carry gun.

Can anyone outline the process to start the CCW application for Riverside County and any snags I need to watch for? I'll keep Googling it as I get closer but sometimes it's good to get this info from a real person.

I'm in the same exact spot you are. It seems like different vendors have slightly different standards regarding holsters, etc. I just picked one and started planning around what's on their site.

I've just picked up inexpensive OWB level II adjustable cant holsters on Amazon from a company called Gun & Flower. Funny brand name, but the fit and finish are surprisingly good for ~$20. And yeah, I'm okay with being cheap on something I'm going to literally use one time every two years.

As for the order of things, I'm pretty sure you submit the application first, then do the training. That's the order I plan on doing it. However, I'm sure the company you plan I'm training through could help with guidance.

I was able to find holsters from that company that fit each one, since all of mine are different sizes. Except my J25, which is so odd and small that no one makes a holster for it. I went with a generic nylon that I hope they'll let me get away with, once I plead my case, hahaha.

If you have any interest in applying for CCW from AZ, FL or UT, the training at L&L covers those states as well, at no additional cost (other than the application with that state). Some unscrupulous vendors will charge extra for that. The advantage of applying for another state is the reciprocity, which CA lacks. With a FL CCW, you also get to skip the waiting period on long guns purchased there. Food for thought.

Yes you need to initiate the process online first, cause if you do not pass the interview/background check first it'll be a waste if you took the class. Just finished the course at riverside. Did it with the riverside sheriffs. For riverside its up to 6 guns, qualifying at 7,10,15 yards. You do need a holster, however it can be universal, they just want it to cover the trigger guard. They also offer a modification if you need to add another gun to your roster after you get your ccw, which you would pay a fee and qualify with it. Its a pretty straight forward process.
