My CCW class was chill. Went with a bougie, semi-private provider. Day one was a classroom portion with just me, another student who, like me, is a criminal defense attorney. We blasted through the legal stuff in no time for obvious reasons. Day two was one-on-one with the instructor, who's a retired cop, on the range. He took me through drawing and firing, re-holstering, failure drills, timed firing, and the like. That was all new to me, because I’m not ex-military or law enforcement, and my firearms experience is purely target shooting in mellow, range environments. After that, he had me shoot my qualification, which was quick because LAPD’s test is disconcertingly easy. We had time left over, so the instructor finished out the day helping me improve my grip, stance, and showing various combat techniques.

Late to the party. I find that class OP described as a lot of fun, good to know but mostly; absurd for entry level CCW accreditation. What should be a constitutional right seems to have morphed into Tactical 101. Not at all appropriate and I suspect primarily feeding an instructor's ego. Once folks test the waters of shooting, its their choice to hit the gas and do more with skill building, it is not the duty of an entry level permit application...not even close.
Yeah.... almost every CCW class I have taken just goes over the Law on Carrying and how to stay compliant. How to stay out of situation that don't evolve you.
These are what most counties require.
There are definalty classes out there for current CCW holders to work on skills but those are not requirements for getting a CCW
