Bergara or springfield

I am looking at getting either the Bergara B14 Crest or Springfield 2020 waypoint in .308

Any input or experiences with them would be greatly appreciated I am leaning toward Bergara because I had a b14 HMR a while back but I hear great things about the springfield

Think the main pro to the Bergara is it fits most Remington 700 stocks so lots of aftermarket options. Both are decent rifles.

Purpose will be shooting small groups at 100-300 and getting back into long range competition but on something of a budget.

The bergara isn’t considered light for what they market as a hybrid mountain rifle; before optics, rings, sling, sling swivels, ammo, and considering trekking with it for miles to and from in varying terrain with weight from gear on your back/hips. Seems like it be better as a bench gun than mountain rifle.

I am very aware of the bergara weight. As stated it will be used for activities other than trekking miles through the woods. It is not the rifle for that.

I have the waypoint in 6.5 creedmoor carbon fiber version, used it on my last hog hunt. shoots well and very pleased with it.

bergara has a great reputation for accuracy and quality for the price.

I haven’t heard of a bad bergara… or the waypoint. with that being said, I don’t think you can go wrong with whatever you choose.

You don't want a lightweight carbon rifle for that then. Why not another HMR? that's the best you can get for off the shelf around 1000 bucks. If you want to spend more I would get a custom action like a Zermatt Origin which will take Proof prefits. I got an origin from Brownells for 850 and a proof for 550 earlier this year. Just add a trigger and a chassis/stock. Definitely don't buy a hunting rifle for shooting groups though. there's no such thing as an "all around rifle". Also would rethink 308, its completely obsolete and 6.5 creedmoor would be much better and also has cheapish off the shelf ammo available. If you reload I love my 6 GT. If you are really on a budget the Howas are nice, you can get one in 6.5 CM with a heavy-ish barrel for around 550, or another fun one is a howa mini in 6mm arc, they make a 20" heavy-ish barrel version and it's so low recoil you don't need the rifle to be quite as heavy as a full on 308 based cartridge.

just going off what OP stated. This or that. I am sure if he wanted to go full custom that would be an option he would have considered. Maybe with the new law, and the ability to get parts maybe the reason he is considering factory built.

I also agree, maybe the HmR might be the best route, save a couple bucks and get quality optic

I just brought it up because the rifles he posted about cost more than I spend on the barrel and action, so it's an option if he wants to spend that much that would be wayyyyy better than those factory offerings. You can still get parts it's just slightly harder. Brownells is still shipping to CA

The B14 crest is not what you want as that's a lightweight hunting rifle.
You want an HMR for target shooting as it seems you do not have one at the moment.

I ended up going with the 2020 waypoint, Springfield.

I went with the Bergara Premier for my 308 build on a Foundation chassis with a Shilen barrel. Love it. I think it’s smother then my Impact Precision 737R. Great customer service too.
