A note on why more of the site now requires an account: automated scrapers and AI systems have been crawling our forums and classifieds at a scale. Requiring sign-in for those sections is the most effective tool we have. It takes a minute to register, it's free, and it keeps what happens here between actual members.

Feedback Gear Question Beginner / First time USPSA Match Preparation

What's tactical?
Don't worry about going fast your first couple matches - focus on shooting all the targets, staying in the fault lines and most imporantly, not DQ'ing!

Besides gear, some important things to keep in mind:

- The big safety infractions that will get newer competitors are 180 breaks, fingers on the trigger when not shooting, and unsupervised gunhandling/improper reholstering.
- Learn the shooting order for your squad - at the very least, know who shoots right before you. Always keep an ear out for who is the shooter, who is on deck and who is in the hole (and deep hole at some clubs).
- If you are not the on-deck shooter OR just completed your stage, you should be taping and resetting and steel. On-deck is your time to prepare for your run and do a last walkthrough; after you shoot, you have during the next shooter's run to jam all your mags back to capacity so you are ready to go when it's your turn on the next stage.
- When it's time for hammer down, you get your 4-minute walk at the start of the stage and your last one when you're on deck. Don't be that guy who tries to get a walkthrough in when they're not even in the hole.
- Don't feel rushed. Take your time, if you're not ready to shoot, don't let the RO push you around.

Sounds like you have all the gear squared away, have fun!
