But back to the issue at hand, SB 1187. The bill requires DOJ to develop the course. It doesn’t provide particulars on how proof of training is to be evidenced and recorded. That will be left to the bill’s provision:

That will allow DOJ to do just about anything in support of this effort. It may include having the training completion forwarded to them. If so (let me screw down my tin-foil hat) DOJ has a perfect vehicle for tracking purchasers, beyond the DROS files.

With everything everyone has noted in the impact of this bill, it should be evident that it has two main goals:
1. Register as many firearms owners as possible, and
2. Make obtaining a firearm extraordinarily difficult.

At some point it will become law that an FSC is required to own, not just to buy, a firearm.

i remember back in 95 or so buying my first handgun we had to get the bfsc card was an extra 5-10 bucks and was suppose to be good for life.We joked around in the shop that once everyone gets one they will see the extra money dry up and do another version.

The card didn't have a printed expiration but it was clearly an oversight in the legislation. I don't think anyone really expected it to be good for life. I had to get mine on the spot at a gun show in order to buy something. There was a booth just to do the cards. They even laminated it.

As for this latest bill, it sounds like we're one step closer to the infamous FOID card, and thus licensing rights. Sure would be nice if the supreme court weren't so disinterested in all these incursions into the framework of Heller.

If this or a similar version ends up getting signed into law, all of you should just get a CCW permit if you haven't already. If you are going to put in the money and time to do classroom training and live fire training, you might as well also get the ability to concealed carry in the places left that still legal to do so.

I had my permit in my hand 3 weeks after I submitted the application. I'm sorry you live in a Democrat county.

As for the $100 being worth it, that's entirely subjective based on your own personal opinion and finances.

I still would recommend the CCW permit regardless of what your situation is.

Thanks for your sorrow, but I've had my CCW for well over a decade and I'm in the heart of democratland. We had and have functional Sheriffs.

The point of the response was to illustrate that getting a CCW is not the easy-peasy, be-all end-all solution for many.

This is depressing... I did read the document that was linked, but I can see no silver lining. They are going to keep making gun ownership more difficult and expensive until us dinosaurs are all gone and the next generations have no clue what it used to be like.

That is exactly their goal! We're already seeing folks here on caguns saying the sin tax, etc. are normal and they are willing to tolerate it.

CAguns.net is the antidote to 21% taxes on guns and ammo. Private party transfers, other than the 10-day waiting period are pretty painless and tax-free (so far). The 21% tax is aimed at gun stores, designed to curtail their business, although every store I go into seems to have a waiting line of people wanting to purchase, so perhaps the Tax-them-into-extinction folks are ultimately getting the opposite reaction.
